The Mercury Cougar initially hit the market in 1967 and was based on the Ford Mustang. Mercury finally gained its own Pony car and was an instant hit. The second generation hit the market in 1971 and was a bit larger and was closer in size to its main GM competitors such as the Olds Cutlass. They were available with a range of V8 engines and were quite popular, with 180k sold from 1971 till 1973. GR Auto Gallery is... pleased to present this unique 1972 Cougar for your consideration. The body is finished in Dark Green Metallic and according to the provided deluxe Martini Report, the car was produced in Dearborn and was delivered on 08/12/1972. Other important features of this car include the 351cid Cobra Jet V8 engine with 4bbl carburetor. It was factory rated at 266 net horsepower. It is mated to a C-6 Cruise-O-matic transmission and the 3.25 rear axle ratio. The body is in nice shape. Overall the paint is nice, with good gloss but some imperfections. Chrome trim is decent and the car is one of just 549 convertibles ordered with factory wire wheel covers in 1972. The tan power convertible top with glass rear window is in good condition and the car also factory badging throughout. The interior is Medium Ginger and has front leather bucket seats that are in good shape but have the usual amounts of wear. The dash is very clean with no cracks and the wood look trim is nice. A wrapped steering wheel is present, as is a newer Sony stereo system. The Martini Report claims that just 110 convertibles were ordered in this color configuration, making them quite rare. Other notable options include power steering, tilt wheel, power front disc brakes, air conditioning, AM radio, center console, tinte glass, appearance protection groupe, and belt radial tires. A rare and understated vehicle, it comes with two keys, paperwork and an assortment of spare parts.
