1939 Mercury DELUXE WOODY Additional Info:

This auction is for a very unique one of a kind car. It is a down sized version of a 1939 Mercury Woody Wagon. This vehicle was hand built from the ground up a number of years ago by the prior owner Dick Mills from Lee NH. He did truck lettering for many years and also fiberglass work and audio equipment. Many people from this area know who he is and his accomplishments . He also built a 1939 Mercury convertible in the same scale as this car. That one he is keeping. A friend of mine purchased this car a couple of years ago with intentions of going thru the vehicle and redoing some things and thenusingit for his antique business . He took it to a repair facilities to have some things done and it ended up sitting there for a long period of time. So at this stage of the game he has decided to move on and let the car go. I will describe it to you as best as i can and tell you what I was told. I do have pictures of the car all apart and going thru the process. The body is fiberglass the doors are wood as is the roof and back door assemblies. This was all mounted on aSuzukiSamurai4 wheel drive chassis. The chassis had some frame stiffeners and additions to the frame to make it more stable. There is a small electric plow that comes with this . He plowed his yard for 5 years with this vehicle. Some where down the line theSuzukimotor went bad so it was replaced with a mustang 2.3 cu in 4cyl with auto trans. Has aHolleycar, headers and dual exhaust. Tony told me that the mechanics at the garage had it runnin, drivingand going into 4 wheel drive. I went to start it when it was brought to me but it seemed to turn over hard and thesolenoidstarted sticking and kept turning over when the key was released. He told me that the mechanic said that the motor sounded ok but was running rich from the big carb. I did notice a tranny line leaking also. So it is going to need some attention. The wood needs to all bere-varnishedon the outside as it is peeling . There is a piece of fiberglass insert missing that goes to the hood side. . If you like tinkering and working on something out of the ordinary then this may be for you . Would make a great piece for a surf shop or something on that line.
