You may see a vintage woody wagon on the road from time to time, but this 1951 Mercury Woody Wagon would prompt anyone to do a double take. It's the result of an unusually thorough and exacting build, with lavish attention paid to even the smallest details both inside and out. Combine this with a strong running and driving condition and you have an iconic classic that stands out in even the most distinguished of automotive crowds. The ultra-clean condition of the exterior draws you in right away. You don't often see the Light Pine shade on cars of any vintage and it's on display here in top form, with a uniformly smooth texture and even coloring from front to back. Move closer and you'll see that the wood paneling running from the doors on back is in stellar condition, having recently been replaced and thoroughly prepped before being refinished. From front to back, there are some great custom touches that make this Woody stand out from its brethren - a pair of frenched headlights loom over a modified front grille originally from a '54 Chevy, the smoothed hood features Buick-style portholes on its sides and the side mirrors were pulled from a '58 Impala. These add-ons aren't just about novelty. They blend together seamlessly for a truly impressive finished result and everything on the exterior is looking its best, including the numerous panels of glass - 9 in all - that surround the cabin. Inside those wood-paneled doors, the entire interior was totally made over from scratch and the result is awesome. You can see so much creativity and impressive workmanship - and there's just so much to gawk at. The front buckets started out on a Dodge Intrepid, so they're plenty comfortable and feature power adjustability and they, along with the two rows of bench seating behind them, have been recovered in tan leather and sit over an expanse of fresh green carpeting. True to the Woody's surf-inspired heritage, a Hula girl takes her place on the show-stopping burlwood grain dash underneath a surfboard-shaped rear-view mirror, and the pair of flowered floor mats are matched by the headliner above. There's some welcome functionality included as well - the nicely configured center console sports an AM/FM/CD player to fill the cabin with sound and an underdash air conditioning unit has been added to keep everyone comfortable. There'll be no shortage of passengers clamoring to ride along in this one of a kind wagon, but luckily this interior offers plenty of space to accommodate them. A 351 Windsor sits inside the well-detailed engine compartment, dressed with some great visual add-ons that include a Mercury-badged air cleaner painted to match both the valve covers and intake manifold, as well as a serpentine belt system. It teams with a period-correct 3-speed Ford O Matic transmission that, like the engine itself, is in top form. New chassis wiring was added recently to up the dependability level, as well as an electric fan to keep operating temperatures under control. In addition to its substantial list of other attributes, this vintage Mercury is also a great driver in real world situations. Its power steering makes navigation easy and its power brakes - with discs up front - bring things to a stop with little effort. A set of 15" American Racing Torq Thrust II wheels with Mercury Man center caps have been outfitted with white wall radial tires to complete the look of this one of a kind classic. The woody wagon symbolized the surf-centric counter culture and with its outstanding configuration, this 1951 Mercury Woody Wagon is a category killer. Call today!
