The 450SLs were built well, and the quality still shows today. This particular car only has 55k miles, and sports a very rare blue over white combination. It would make a perfect ready-to-drive spring/summer cruiser for those trips upstate and to the Hamptons.
The car is in excellent condition and has been garaged, and hardly driven.
Outside, the body is in fantastic shape. The paint presents itself incredibly well, looks very straight and original on all panels including the OEM hardtop. Panels are also straight with consistent gaping. The convertible top is in excellent shape as well. Soft top is in good condition, and the car even comes with the original tools for releasing the OEM hardtop.
Inside, the car is in excellent shape. Original components are still in great condition. Typically, the A/C mechanism fails on these cars, but this one works well, though we recommend a freon recharge. Overall, everything is in very original good condition. The beautiful white interior is extremely comfortable, clean and desirable among collectors.
Mechanically, the car is sound and has a clean bill of health from a recent visit to the mechanic. In neutral, the idle is high - I think it just needs adjustment. In gear, the car idles perfectly. Suspension and undercarriage are pristine. Please look closely at the photos. Tires on the original wheels also have nearly 90% tread without any dry rot. Spare wheel, as far as I can tell, has also never been used. The 4.5 liter V8 starts easily and drives great.
When purchasing the car originally in 2011, the following parts were replaced new: power steering pump, front shocks, shift link bushings, rear hand brake cable, rear sway bar links, roof locking handles, motor mounts, rear brake pads and tune up of motor. Just last month, a new Bosch fuel pump and battery were installed.
This is a perfect vintage car for someone who appreciates European classic cars. The soft and hardtop provides great versatility as well. Take the top down during Spring and Summer, put the hardtop on for Fall and Winter. New owner can also be confident in that all the proper maintenance has been done so they can focus on just enjoying the car. The 450SLs, also known as the R107 models, are an iconic design and they have a reputation for solid construction and long-term reliability.
As expected, for a classic that's near 37 years old, there are a few things worth calling out. The fuel gauge is stuck, there is paint brittling in the passenger side door jam and under the hood near the headlights, bolster support on the driver side and dashboard corners is showing a little ware.
