Offered at $13,900 and priced for a near-term sale. Serious buyers and informed offers are welcome.
This 1977 Mercedes-Benz 450 SEL W116 is a highly original, low-mileage example with approximately 31,654 actual miles, continuous one-family Southern California history since new, original blue paint, matching numbers, and extensive supporting documentation.
My father purchased the car new from Calstar Mercedes-Benz in Glendale, California in 1977. It was used primarily as a second or third automobile, was garaged for much of its life, and remained in the same family until title transferred to me in May 2026.
Mileage and provenance
The approximately 31,654 miles are represented as actual and are supported by historical service and maintenance records, California smog certification records documenting the progression of the odometer, and the original import invoice.
Mechanical and operating condition
The 4.5L V8 starts and runs well based on my current use. The factory 3-speed automatic transmission shifts normally, and the car continues to drive, track and brake normally based on my current experience.
The car recently passed California smog, and California registration fees are paid through June 2027. All four tires were replaced approximately 18–24 months ago and have limited mileage since replacement.
The Becker radio and power sunroof are operational.
The climate-control system produces room-temperature air and warm air for heating. The A/C does not currently produce cold air and requires further diagnosis or repair. The aging climate-control servo that had previously been causing leaks was replaced.
Originality and condition
The car retains its original blue paint and substantial factory originality. As would be expected with a nearly 50-year-old original automobile, there are age-related paint chips, cosmetic imperfections, and interior wear that are shown in the listing photographs.
The rear seats were replaced more than 20 years ago after the original seat padding deteriorated with age. The replacement rear-seat padding has also aged. The upper-left and upper-right rear seatbacks each show a narrow approximately one-inch cut/tear with some discoloration.
Localized deformation is present immediately ahead of the left-front wheel well from a reported tire blowout many years ago. The condition is cosmetic rather than structural, and detailed photographs are included.
Documentation and included equipment
Supporting documentation includes historical service and maintenance records, historical and recent California smog certifications, the original import invoice, Mercedes-Benz owner’s manual, and other available literature.
Included with the car are one key, a full-size spare tire/wheel, the original Mercedes-Benz tool roll, and related trunk equipment.
A comprehensive approximately five-minute exterior/interior walkaround, cold-start and driving video is available to serious interested buyers.
VIN / chassis number
Actual chassis/VIN: 11603312066250. This 1977 Mercedes-Benz predates the standardized 17-character VIN format, which is why eBay’s VIN decoder may not recognize the original chassis number.
Clean California title in my name.
Pre-purchase inspections are welcome at the buyer’s expense by appointment at a mutually acceptable shop.
