I've been working on W124s for 20 years, and this spring I'm selling four of my W124s and one of my W123s.
This is a Mercedes 1993 300E sportline. Pearl Grey with black leather. Full AMG C36 drivetrain, engine & transmission.
The sportline was an aggressive package made up of lower stiffer springs, sport shock absorbers, larger sway bars, quicker ratio steering, and a smaller thicker diameter steering wheel.
This one is in excellent condition, newer springs and shocks, replaced control arms, new bushings.
The car has the European one piece glass lights, paint is good, no major rust. This car has a replacement delphi non degradable wiring harness and a replacement rebuilt throttle body, both weaknesses on the 3.2 M104. The C36 722.3 trans tail was converted for W124 with a mechanical speedo. Shifts are very nice and crisp.
It's a non-asr car, so there is less to go wrong. It's also a 48 state federal car, so no check engine light either.
The M104 cars have large 4 piston front calipers and rotors
No rips in the leather seats no unusual noises from the drivetrain.
I've had this car 5 or 6 years, I removed the original 3.2 engine and upgraded the engine to a rebuilt AMG 3.6 with a rebuilt AMG 3.6 transmission behind it. Both engine and transmission have less than 5,000 miles on them.
The 3.6 engine has different cams, pistons, rods and a modified 3.5 diesel crankshaft. There were also differences to the cam timing and cylinder heads. The 3.6 engine "pulls" much harder than the regular 3.2 M104 especially above 3000 rpm. Video added showing power band.
The stock engine was a 3.2 M104 ('93 model year was the first year for the 3.2 M104), which made 217 hp and 229 tq at the crank. Mercedes and AMG sold the C36 (where this 3.6 came) from with 276hp and 284 tq. The car was recently on the dyno at 229hp and 249 ft/lbs torque at the wheels which translates to 278hp and 302 tq (with the standard sized intake crossover).
This car is a true alternative to a 500E or E500 (Mercedes sold the W124 E36 in rhd countries as an alternative to the lhd only 500E), I own both cars, so I can speak from experience.
Everything works and all the body parts are shared with other standard W124 sedans, so if you crack a bumper or dent a fender, replacing the parts doesn't involve selling a loved one as it does with a 500E.
The 6 cylinder cars are much simpler to work on than the V8s and this one will give the new owner many years of driving pleasure.
I replaced the front springs and front and rear shocks with the correct sportline replacements.
The car has a new radiator, I replaced the throttle body and the wiring harness, when I installed the engine. Both are known issues on the M104. I replaced the front and rear brake calipers, rotors and pads.
Currently the car has non sportline black leather seats. I prefer the non sportline seats. Easier to use, easier to care for, and better for carrying children and belongings in the rear. I have the original sportline black leather heated seats that I can install instead if a buyer prefers.
The car has a cat delete pipe in the exhaust and as this was a '93 production federal car, it has no check engine light.
It has no rust in any of the critical areas, no rust under the washer bottle or under the ABS pump, no rust in the inner fender wells, no rust in the fenders. There is a bubble of 1" rust on the rear trunklid. A rust free trunklid in the same color is included with the sale. There is some rust bubbles under the drip rail on the side of the windshield.
The paint is in good condition, but not perfect. A few bumps and scratches here and there. Both bumpers have been painted and replaced at some point.
I have replaced the becker 1432 head unit, the trunk mounted receiver, both amplifiers and the antenna. The becker system works as it should.
I would drive this car anywhere, without hesitation.
As great as this car is, it's still a used car, and a 31 year old car at that, so it is for sale as-is where is without any type of warranty, because Connecticut does not issue a title for cars over 20 years old it is sold with a bill of sale and an assignment of title form.
