This was the last year of the legendary W126 series and the second generation of the Mercedes-Benz flagship series officially known as the 'S' class meaning 'Special Class' and had a suggested retail price of over $82K by it's last year of production in 1991. The W126 S-class was a champion in the luxury car market and dominated worldwide sales during its twelve year production run from 1979-91 and by the end of its run was renown internationally as being the world's best selling prestige luxury car! It was awarded the US Highway Loss Data Institute's 'Safest Passenger Car of the Year Award' in both 1988 & 1989! It was replaced by the W140 in 1991.
