We restored this car back in 2009 for a well known collector in New York who has purchased several cars from Mercedes Motoring. The car was absolutely incredible to begin with, lthough he insisted on a fairly major restoration at a cost of $30,000 (new paint, ons of new mechanical components from a factory A/C servo unit to complete new suspension front to back, ll new exterior parts, tc... detailed info below).

It's not always easy to articulate the subtle differences from one nice low mileage W123 to the next, ut there definitely is a 'feel' you get from one to the next. I don't quite know what is about this 300D, ut when you sit in the driver's seat it really is like being transported back in time. You feel a sense of pure originality, ike you're sitting at the dealership in 1978. It's pretty incredible. Whoever gets this Mercedes-Benz will be very, ery happy.

Description: 1978 Mercedes-Benz 300D (production completed November 1977, itled in 1978). Astral Silver (MB paint code 735) with Blue MB-Tex. 4-door sedan with 5-Cylinder, .0 liter, uel-injected, aturally aspirated diesel, ingle overhead cam, -speed automatic transmission, ower assisted 4-wheel disc brakes, -wheel independent suspension, /C and heat automatic climate control, ower windows, entral locking, ower steering, ruise control, riginal Becker Europa II Stereo with adjustable sleeve height power antenna, lectrically heated rear windshield, uartz chronometer, -way adjustable front seats, 4” original Bundt wheels, ront and rear center folding armrest, ront center cargo tray, assenger side power mirror, alogen head lamps, alogen fog lamps, -speed windshield wiper with 5-second mist interval control, -piece custom cocomat kit, ebrano wood dash trim, oop carpet, river accessible rear dome light switch, eadlight turn-off warning device, ptional right and left side controlled parking light illumination, ull spare and tool kit, irst-aid kit, wner's Manual, long with Mercedes-Benz dealership stamped Maintenance Booklet and other Mercedes-Benz literature. Free and clear title.

Exterior Condition: The Astral Silver paint is phenomenal. Several years ago the car received all new paint at a cost of $16,000. It was stripped to bare metal and redone by a reputable company in Newport Beach, A. Around this same time the car underwent an extensive restoration. That work included, ut is not limited to a complete new grill assembly (i.e., ousing, adge, tar, esh, rossbars with corresponding clips, ood release and gasket), ew hood insulation pad, ew OEM Bosch headlight doors, ew OEM Bosch turn signal lenses, ew OEM tail lights, ew trunk emblems and star, ew trunk seal, omplete new front and rear bumpers (i.e., lades, mpact strip, pacers and end caps), ew hood misters, omplete new body molding kit, ocker molding kit, elt molding kit, ew cowl vent grills, ew headlamps, ew fog lamps, ew passenger side-view mirror, ew front and rear windshield seal, ew door handle gaskets and era correct pinstripe. The polished anodized aluminum trim, hich wraps all of the exterior glass, s brilliant and shines free of any fading, telltale indicator of a car that has been garage kept. Both front and rear bumpers are in excellent like-new condition, s are the impact strips, pacer and end caps. The original Bundt wheels are in excellent condition and were painted during the restoration along with new lug nuts and new center caps. The original 14” Bundt spare with corresponding Pirelli Cinturato P3 195/70/SR14 tire has never been used. The jack and tool kit are brand new as well. The trunk compartment is excellent. Driver side door seal and trunk seal are brand new along with front and rear windshields. All other original seals are in great shape and still soft and pliable. All factory glass is original and in excellent condition. Original factory stickers and data plate on door jam and engine compartment are intact and excellent.

NOTE: THE UNDERCARRIAGE STILL HAS TRACES OF THE ORIGINAL PROTECTIVE COSMOLINE UNDERCOATING.

Interior Condition: The interior of this sedan is absolutely stunning. The Blue MB-Tex is in perfect, ike new condition. There are no rips, o tears, o fading, o diminished support in the padding, o pleats that have shifted beneath the stitching, nd virtually no wear whatsoever. The parcel nets hold tightly against the front seat backrests. The original loop carpet is flawless, ithout any stains, ading or unraveling, nd virtually no wear at all. The OEM carpets are also protected by a 5-piece custom era correct sisal mat kit. The zebrano wood dash trim is stunning! It is clear and deep with a durable shine, nd there are absolutely no cracks or fading. The headliner looks brand new. The sun visors and sun visors bolster are spectacular and look untouched. The MB-Tex door panels and heat-pressed inserts are crisp, ight and look brand new. The map pockets are equally impressive and have no cracks, cuffs or tears. The wind lace and B-pillar felts are brand new. The original unopened first-aid kit appears to have never been used. The accessory switches, nobs, uttons, urn signal lever, ruise control lever, tc. are in excellent condition without any faded symbols, nd they are all in proper working order. The steering wheel is firm to the grip without any twisting or slack. The car underwent an extensive restoration several years ago. That work included, ut is not limited to a brand new window switches, ome light switch, ower antennae switch, ear window defrost switch, emoved and restored original Becker Europa II Stereo and removed and restored instrument cluster (i.e., alibrated speedometer, ainted needles, epaired clock, tc.).

Mechanical Condition: This sedan runs absolutely excellent! It starts, rives and handles fantastic. It has been driven regularly, ut sparingly since new, nd has never sat for any extended period of time. It has been exceptionally well maintained since new, nd has never missed a single scheduled service. It's durable and fuel efficient 3.0 liter, -cylinder diesel motor is smooth and strong, nd it gets an average of 27 MPG. Cold starts are instantaneous, hich is a validation to its low miles. The motor, hassis and engine compartment are all exceptionally clean and dry. There are no leaks of any kind. The transmission shifts sure, imely and proper. Independent suspension is solid and comfortable, nd the steering is tight and responsive without any play. The car underwent an extensive restoration several years ago. That work included, ut is not limited to a major 30,000 mile service including valve adjustment, ll new filters, ll new fluids, ll new belts and hoses, ew battery, ew A/C servo, ew quick-glow starting kit, ew master cylinder and reservoir, ew fuel injectors, ew oil pan, ew tie rod ends, ew drag link, ew steering shock, ew upper and lower control arm bushings, ew front and rear brake pads, ew rotors, ll new fuses, ebuilt Hirshmann power antennae including new mast.There are currently no pending maintenance issues.

Accessories Condition: All power windows function excellent. Central locks work fast and excellent. Cruise control sets and holds properly. Air conditioning/heater/defrosters all work excellent, nd blow heat and air from the proper vents respectively. Becker Europa II AM/FM stereo works excellent, long with adjustable height power antenna. Instrument cluster gauges all work excellent, ncluding: clock, dometer, ripometer, heostat illumination switch, il pressure gauge, emperature gauge, uel gauge, tc. Seats adjust smooth and proper. Glovebox compartment opens/closes/locks properly. One key fits front doors, runk, nd glove compartment (2 original keys including valet key). Headlights work excellent, long with high beams, og lights, rake lights, arking lights, everse lights, oth dome lights, urn signals, runk light, icense plate lights, love compartment light, ccessory switch illumination light, nstrument cluster lights, tc.
