1991 Mercedes 300E 4MATIC
125027 Miles, I have owned this for five years now, from Chicago. There were 103,000 miles on the car then. It is a good running car it just needs some attention I can't give it right now.At this point it would need to be towed or bring a new battery and it will run strong.
I have used a respectable vintage Mercedes mechanic, The Sports Car Factory in Hallville ON for all the work down on it over the years, which isn't much cause it hadn't needed it. Then this one time I used a closer mechanic, things started to get funny.I had brought the car in to this one place ONCE, and they had replaced one of the computer hard drive cassettes with a used one, which had solved the problem at the time. Though ever since then there has been a short in the electrical system and the battery would drain. Things like the windows being allowed to roll down when you used the automatic window button while there was no key in the ignition where capable, which wasn't the case before. Also the alarm would sound while driving randomly, so I disabled it.That was this summer. I have been using the vehicle up until recently when the battery has completely died. I can charge it and start and drive the car but as soon as you turn on the heat it while kill the charge quickly and die while driving. Now it could be the Altenator but I really do think the problem stems from the faulty hard drive cassette. You could put in a new battery and drive it for quite some time, though while the car is off it will still be draining. The 4MATIC system mechanically works and it works well. I have had this car in just about two feet of snow and it gets through it no problem. It is a tank. and a good looking one. The problem is that there is a leak in the hydraulic line around the portion that runs from the front to the rear axle, once that portion of line is replaced and the system bled the 4MATIC system will operate. There is still another small leak that has been in the system since I have owned it though I just carry the Mercedes hydraulic oil with me and top it off as necessary. Anyone who knows these cars will know what you need to have with you in the trunk. A few others things to note,
front end needs some looking into, drivers side wheel bearing or ball joint needs to be replaced, I have the ball joint will go with the car, needs wheel alignment shimmies at 60 mph
drivers side key slot got jammed with the wrong key once so is in op but you can lock the doors from either the trunk or passenger side, though that is one of those funny things that has crept up since I went to the one mechanic once. So now it doesn't lock at all except for the trunk itself. I know that it is all vacuum operated but it had worked fine till I had gone to that one mechanic once. There is some rust developing in some areas nothing excessive but it is there.
some dings n dents
fair condition interior needs a cleaning
Winter tires
cargo carrier and roof racks are being sold separately
I really like this car and if I had the time and the money I would bring it to hallville to my regular mechanic and I would get it all sorted out,It will get onto a trailer no prob and if your not in a rush and careful it will go where ever you need it to with a new battery. No warranty expressed or impliedplease ask any questions.
Still lots of great car left in this Benz 300 E 4MATIC just needs some TLC
