Classic W116
Last of the good handling, and classic stylethat wascoupled with the great S class ride.
1980 Mercedes Benz300SD Turbodiesel sedan.
Offered for restoration of this next great classic, or you may perform repairs and drive as is.
This is a classic cruiser, that rides nice, has good power with the turbo, and gets good mileagedue tothe diesel powerplant. Handles pretty well for a big car.You likely knowthe W116 is a great combo for this. Straight and clean. I haven't seen any significant rust. No big dents or body damage. It has a repaint in dark metallic blue that isn't perfect butholds up fairly well and looks sharp with the tinted windows, but the original colorlooks to bea lighter silver blue. Interior is great for this age. Seats are matching navyblue and in great shape. It does needsome little things like passenger door panel reinstalled, a bolt in the driver seat, motor mounts and antennae gasket replaced. I have those parts, and they are included.
The maindifficulty isshe is currentlynot running. I seem to have run out of fuel on the way home. I know, a cardinal sin on the diesel. While returningon the expressway she started to sputter. Likely the fuel gauge is faulty. I pulled off the exit and filled her up with diesel but sheran poorly thelast couple miles home andwould not restart.I attempted to reprime but the hand pumped leaked all over. I replaced with the newer style along with filters. Still did not start and with winter coming, I am out of storage and out of time for this one. So my loss canbe your gain. Please return this classic cruiser to former glory beforeprices approach earlier 300's.
Dash is not perfect, there is a small crack in the windshield, may need someother attention as well but overall a very sold classic with no major rust underneath or body repair required which is really the key for these classic W116 chassis. Rockers, wheelwells and even spare tire well all look solid with the only spot I see being 50 cent piece-sized surface rust on bottom of spare tire well.So fix her up and ride in style.
