1982 Mercedes-Benz 200-Series DIESEL W123 240D **Only 50K MILES** Additional Info:
RARE ONE OWNER 1982 Mercedes 240D Diesel body w123 that just turned 51,000 miles! Color is White Ivory, which is the pale yellow, not the milkier yellow- yellow. Purchased from the original family, I’ve had about a dozen of these cars and haven’t ever seen one in this condition, but I am holding out for a wagon. I hope someone can get this car and enjoy it for years to come, as you typically see this year and model with anywhere from 500,000-700,000+ miles.
VIDEO walk thru at the bottom.
****NEW AC Compressor installed this past week---a common issue in the w123's.
This was a doctor’s car here in Tennessee which was a gift from the hospital in 1982. Apparently the hospital had a great year and gifted one to each of the physicians. His wife didn’t like the smell and sound of the diesel, so she rarely drove it. It always stayed garaged.
As soon as I got it, since it hasn’t been driven a lot in the last several years, I had a complete check over on it. I am very, very over-particular, so I wanted everything done first class. The belt at the alternator was loose, so I had all of the belts replaced last week. The alternator also wasn’t holding a good charge, so I told him to replace the alternator and go ahead with a brand new battery. The tires were fairly new, but had some dry rot, so I had them replaced this week with top of the line Michelin Defenders. The rear brake pads were suggested to be replaced soon, so I had that done while it was there. That service was $1564.
I also noticed the brakes were either sensitive or mushy, so the tech who’s always serviced the car in Brentwood, TN, recommended a new master brake cylinder and OEM brake fluid, which I did at $544.26 on 2/23/17.
Service on 4/5/2017:
I also noticed that it seemed groggier than it should. I had the tank checked and the diesel sludge had settled at the bottom of it, restricting the fuel filter. Instead of having the tank cleaned out, I elected to have the whole thing replaced with all new seals, Mercedes sealing gas cap, new fuel sender, new filters- in tank, pre-filter and fuel filter. I also had them steam out all the lines to make sure there was no build-up. Also new fuel hose, exhaust hanger, fuel sender gasket.
He also recommended new brake calipers, which I approved. Along with brake sensors and flushed brake fluid. Also replaced Control Arm Bushing which had a slight leak.
Also had the strikers on the doors replaced, so they didn't have to be closed hard. $260
Had AC recharged, new wipers. Total $1,853.00
Service this past week: AC charge did not hold, so had the compressor completely replaced. Blows COLD as ice now! Also had vacuum connectors replaced for added insurance. $900
Past Service:
At 48,953: Fuel filters replaced, New valve cover gasket, Diesel injector plug, Accelerator lever.
This one never had the optional hood ornament or passenger mirror, so I ordered those as well. If you aren’t familiar with the w123’s, they are known as the most reliable…ever…of the Mercedes fleet, as well as one of the most reliable vehicles ever produced.
The car runs great! Radio works great! Also typical of w123’s, the cruise control works about half the time. I’d replace the mechanism, but this wouldn’t be a highway car much for me.
I’d love to keep this car, but can’t justify it. It’s a fourth vehicle and I just don’t have the space and don’t want to leave it parked outside. I have an S-class and have had a bunch of these E’s, Glk, SLK, S550 and originally a C. These w123s are a really driving experience…just fun and so, so dependable. I hope someone can get this while it’s still so low mileage and show it the fun it deserves for a lot of years! Good luck!!! Vehicle sold as-is, no warranty in effect. No leaks!! No messy driveway, if you're OCD like me.
I'm close to Nashville and Nashville airport.
