Want to pay less (or possibly nothing) and help the environment with a carbon neutral fuel? This classic has been modified to run on straight vegetable oil, filtered waste vegetable oil, diesel, bio-diesel or all of these mixed at the same time. A professionally installed Elsbett vegetable oil single tank kit from Germany that has special inserts for the injectors, hotter glow plugs and extra filter with heating jacket has been running great for years now. Most minor rust spots have been repaired and it still has original paint. One surface rust spot noticed recently on bottom front corner of rear door panel driver side. A slight dent from a foul baseball on hood (see picture). It was a loud impact when the ball hit but there was only a minor dent, quality metal on these vehicles compared to the sheet metal used on today's vehicles. Only 163,242 miles on the bulletproof OM617 turbo diesel known to go 500K plus miles with no problem. Always professionally maintained with rebuilt front and rear suspension (including entire self-leveling system). Work since I purchased it in 2006 includes engine mounts, ball joints and steering linkages, rear control arms/bushings, new rear coil springs, upper and lower front control arms, shocks, new steering box, new fuel advance pump, new battery, new radiator and new fan clutch pulley assembly, new trans oil cooler, new turbo oil drain seal, new auto climate control system modules and the AC blows ice cold as entire system (including hoses) was replaced. The transmission was also rebuilt along with new rear half axles and the rear differential was replaced as well. It also has a custom 150amp alternator to handle the vegetable oil heating system.
It has the rare fold down rear facing seat option in the back to seat 7 passengers in total. Rear hatch struts have been replaced as well as rear rubber hatch guides, weather stripping and door catches. Rides with no noises or rattles, steering and shifting is very tight. Loves highway speeds.
I have two full sets of authentic rims with summer tires on one and ice/snow tires on the other. Runs like a dream. I was slowly restoring to top mechanical condition and it is pretty much there.
Everything works and I have all receipts (over 20K) to show the incredible value any buyer will be receiving. A good paint job and minor interior refurbishing is all that is left for a top-notch restored classic. I have the original stereo installed now since I was considering collector status to pay minimal insurance. I would like to see this baby go to a good home with someone who appreciates the SVO system that it has. I am only selling because I have too many project vehicles, a 2009 Mercedes GL 320 BlueTec diesel and no space left in my garage. I have to say good-bye to one of them. I have not driven this car regularly (just start it every few months) for about two years now. Someone should be enjoying it, it has lots of life left.
