1969 Lotus Elan S4 DHC (drop head coupe) “type 45” very complete and running project car with 126K (assumed) miles. Matching numbers engine was previously rebuilt and runs good, but car is not driveable due to hydraulic clutch needs a rebuild. I have receipt/record of the engine rebuild, but it is not dated. Needs battery, but runs on its own (gas in tank, fuel pump working, coolant in radiator, electrics, etc.)
Purchased from family of 2nd “long time” owner (since 1973). Car is out of Maryland, but previously had life in Louisiana and Texas. Car was stored/parked in dry storage its life and has been sitting these past few years untouched.
Equipped with Colin Chapman signature steering wheel. Interior is complete, dash veneer peeled off. I have a new replacement dash to go with car. Seats are pretty nice, with minor seem stitching needed. No convertible top, but equipped with top irons and a nice cover. Passenger door glass is off track. Choke cable knob missing. Has very nice dash pad, but center console is cracked.
Car rolls freely, but rear brakes are sticking slightly. Tires have zero miles with no dry rot and look brand new, but I cannot attest to their age. Tail light lens differ from each other and housing cracked/pitted. Front end looks well maintained with Spax shocks and new tie rod ends? Has full width radiator too.
Car has older repaint, is straight with no apparent damage, with the exception of the front wheel arch lips along the top edge, some body putty is evident. Paint is dull, but could be buffed/polished and kept as is, and presents itself pretty well (a 10 footer).
Car needs either a total restoration, or a good candidate for a soft restoration, get in driving condition and drive as is. Check pictures very carefully. What you see is what you get. Comes with clear open title in my name.
Please remember that this is an "antique" vehicle 47 years old. It needs restoration and is consistent with a vehicle with this mileage, age and use. Car is available for pre-bid inspections and I would always encourage and welcome this. I am proud of my 100% excellent feedback score and always try to give accurate descriptions so that there are no surprises or disappointments. I am open and receptive torealisticoffers considering all that is included.
Those with less than ten (10) or negative feedback history do NOT bid unless you contact me and communicate first, otherwise your bids will be retracted and bidder banned from further bidding. The winning bid is NOT a right of first refusal, but a commitment to purchase the vehicle regardless of anything, so a non-refundable deposit via PayPal is required within 24 hours of auction ending and arrangements to be made for pickup of item. Vehicle is listed "for sale" by other venues and media, so I reserve the right to terminate the listing at any time.
Will sell world-wide, but any and all shipping/transport arrangements to be made and paid for by winning bidder/buyer.
