1961 Lincoln Continental Convertible Additional Info:

Here is one very cool and very rare 1961 Lincoln Continental convertible. We purchased this car from an estate in Dallas, Texas, where it had been sitting untouched in a garage since 1985. It shows only 53K miles, which we believe to be original. This vehicle is one of the most solid, rust-free, and straightest early Continental convertibles you will ever find. With only 2,857 units ever produced, these cars are very scarce. This particular car was very well-equipped, including rare factory air conditioning.

After discovering the car a few months ago, we went through it to bring it back to life. This included replacing the tires, rebuilding the carburetor, flushing the fuel system, changing the fluids, completing a tune-up, going through the brakes, and more. It is now a running and driving car, and is actually one of the nicest and smoothest driving Lincolns I've ever owned, which further supports the low mileage it shows. We have only driven it around our neighborhood, but I would suggest further sorting the car out a bit before any long trips. One thing I would recommend is replacing the many vacuum lines in the car that are brittle due to age.

This car is not far from being a six-figure Lincoln with some light restoration, yet it could be driven and enjoyed as it sits or as you restore it. After cleaning, the Sultan white paint is surprisingly nice, with some minor touch-ups on the hood and deck lid. All the original chrome and trim on the car look absolutely gorgeous and could nearly pass as new. The glass is all in amazing condition. Even all the windows work, including the rear drop-down windows, which is amazing.

What the car needs is for the convertible top system to be serviced. The trunk interior needs to be redone. Under the hood is all stock and original but would benefit from an engine compartment detail. The interior is usable as it is but would need to be redone to bring it to the next level. It was originally a red and white leather interior, which would look stunning. All the rare and important interior details are very nice, including the steering wheel, dash pads, interior chrome, trim, buttons, and knobs. The convertible top is surprisingly decent except for the rear window, but due to age, a new top would be justified.

This car is a great opportunity for anyone looking for a truly nice, unmolested, rust-free suicide door Continental convertible. Low-mileage, virtually untouched cars like this are increasingly rare. No matter what you decide to do-leave it as is and drive it, do a mild restoration and have a six-figure car, or completely redo the car to show and have a multiple six-figure vehicle-anything you do will be easier since you started with a nice car. Do not sleep on this one, as they are few and far between. Last year, we sold a complete basket case '63 convertible for not much less than what we are asking for this one. Just ask yourself: where and when are you going to find another one like this again?
