Originating from the “King of Kustoms” Mr. George Barris himself complete with a signed Certificate of Authenticity. This Lincoln was sold new in San Fransisco and was owned by the original owner until the mid 1970’s when George Barris purchased the Lincoln and then sold it to his lead painter (Roy “Tubs” Johnson) of “Barris Kustom Industries”. Roy was an automotive painter from Detroit Michigan who began working with George Barris and the early 1960’s. Roy was one of the original five men crew who helped George build the first 1966 Batmobile and was in charge of the painting aspects of the Batmobile project. Roy stayed working with George all the way until his death in 1990, he was known for extremely high quality paint jobs that could be performed in a very short amount of time. Together George and Roy customized this rare Lincoln Lido coupe and the previous owner claims that Von Dutch stopped by Barris Kustom’s and added the final pin stripping to the Lincoln! The Lincoln was also officially used by Barris in the Barris/Kenwood National Tour exhibitions.
Introduced on July 5, 1950 as Lincoln’s answer to the General Motors hardtops. The Lido provided a stylish alternative to the GM hardtop The 1950 to 1951 models featured a vinyl or canvas-covered roof, fender skirts, bright roof drip rails and rocker panel moldings, dual door mirrors, a gold-colored hood ornament and a custom interior with special door and side panels, as well as an electric clock was standard. The total production for these body style L-72B (Two-Door Club Coupe) and L-72C (Two-Door Lido Coupe) was 4,482 units.
Finished in a custom two-tone dark green and light green metallic custom paint, this Lincoln that stands out in a crowd. According to the previous owner, Von Dutch’s signature pin-striping is featured on the George Barris paint. The dark green vinyl top is in excellent condition with no tears or wear spots. The original trim is present and complete. The front chrome bumper and custom grill fits well and looks great. While the rear bumper mirrors the same theme of the front bumper. The headlights and bezels are in excellent condition. The custom chrome twin tail pipes have a brilliant chrome finish.
Inside, the rich two-tone green vinyl with velour style split front and rear seats appear in excellent condition. The matching two-tone green door panels, carpet and darker green dashboard (with George Barris’ signature and badging!) are a continuation of the striking two tone exterior of the car and look fantastic. A custom George Barris logo green Lucite shift knob is located on the column shifter! All gauges are located in their original place have correct appearance and function as originally designed. Original equipment push-button AM radio. The beautiful originally equipped steering wheel with custom green wrap. Also included is a record of registration including the California “Pink” slip from Roy “Tubs” Johnson ownership and the Certificate of Authenticity signed by George Barris.
This nicely presented Ford is equipped with Ford/Holley 2 barrel carburetor, 337cid Flat head V8 engine mated to a four speed Hyrda-Matic automatic transmission. The suspension consist of upper and lower A arms, coil springs, rear semi-elliptic leaf springs, and front and rear drum brakes. The wheels are 15-inch steel wheels and matching original Lincoln hub caps with wide whitewall tires. A matched body painted sun shade is also included but not currently installed on the vehicle.
Rarely are you given such an opportunity to own a genuine piece of automotive history as well as a genuine signed piece of art signed by the artist himself. George Barris created cars have been steadily increasing in value, with his most iconic creation, the Batmobile commanding a massive price tag of 4.6 million! GET OUT AND DRIVE!
