1981 Land Rover Series III 109 ? Rare Stage 1 V8, Java Green
Miami Garage presents a truly special Land Rover ? a 1981 Series III 109 Stage 1 V8, one of the most desirable and limited-production variants ever built.
This is the model that bridged the gap between the classic Series trucks and the future Defender, combining the iconic Series III body with Range Rover mechanicals and permanent 4WD.
Finished in its original Java Green over aluminum bodywork, with right-hand drive, this Stage 1 retains its authentic character and mechanical originality. The paint presents as driver-quality in its factory color, while the truck benefits from a brand-new canvas soft top and a new radiator.
A full brake service was recently completed, including new brake shoes, rectified drums, new brake cylinders, new hoses, and new brake lines on all four corners, preparing the truck for reliable use.
Under the hood is the factory 3.5-liter Rover V8 with its original twin carburetors, paired with the heavy-duty LT95 4-speed gearbox and permanent four-wheel drive ? a major upgrade over standard Series trucks.
Known for strong low-end torque, simplicity, and durability, the Stage 1 V8 was designed for export markets and specialized use, offering far more capability than the standard four-cylinder models of the era.
Unlike typical Series III models, the Stage 1 V8 introduced permanent 4WD with a center differential, Range Rover drivetrain, and the stronger Rover V8 tuned for torque and serious off-road performance.
With a 109? wheelbase and significant ground clearance, these trucks were built for demanding terrain and became the most capable and powerful Series III Land Rover ever offered.
This example runs and drives, retains its complete original drivetrain, and remains one of the rarest configurations ? a true Stage 1 V8, built only from 1979 to 1983 in very limited numbers and believed to be produced in the low hundreds.
A very special opportunity to acquire the ultimate Series III ? a historic transition model between the classic Series trucks and the early Ninety/One Ten that later evolved into the Defender.
Pure Land Rover heritage, increasingly hard to find, especially in original condition.
