1964 Land Rover 88 Series IIA Additional Info:

1964 Land Rover 88 Series IIA It almost goes without saying that the “Series” Land Rovers are some of the most important vehicles in automotive history. This 1964 Series IIA is a great example of the marque and has been both restored, and received numerous mechanical upgrades through its life, that make it look great and an outstanding driver. Finished in a tan color called Sandglow with a beige canvas soft top, this Land Rover looks the part, and has the mechanicals to match. Purchased by the consignor out of California in 2018, the car had already received a thorough cosmetic restoration that has held up exceptionally well. 16-inch Limestone colored disc wheels are exactly what you would want on a Land Rover of this vintage, and upgraded power disc brakes hide behind them. One of the hallmark features of Land Rovers from this era was the fold down windshield, but if you don’t want to commit to going windshield free, fresh air vents in the cowl allow air to move through the cabin on warm days. Another thing that is quite beloved on this generation of Land Rover is the hood-mounted spare tire, which is on full display with this truck. In front of the truck sits a frame mounted Power Takeoff Unit which is connected to a Capstan winch with correct hemp rope affixed to it. Many of these Land Rovers were driven into the ground when they were new, but this one presents very nicely and wouldn’t look out of place in a collection space. The interior has received a number of minor upgrades, utilizing some bits from the Series III trucks that came later on. This includes Series III seats which are fitted with lap belts for a bit of added safety. Jaeger instrumentation sits in the center of the dashboard, and in front of the driver is a large, 3-spoke steering wheel that gives you plenty of leverage to wheel this truck around. A heater has been installed, with the blower sitting right in the driver’s footwell- which is a nice feature to have. Most of the Series II Land Rovers were fitted with small displacement diesel engines that were dependable but hardly what would be considered powerful. Under the current ownership, this car racked up over $60,000 in invoices at marque experts Dare Britannia in Olympia, WA. One of the biggest upgrades carried out at their shop was the removal of the diesel engine, which was then replaced with a 2.25-liter gasoline inline-4 with a Solex carburetor. This provides a bit more power and is simple to run and maintain. This has been paired with a 4-speed gearbox out of a Series III Land Rover with synchronizers on all gears, which sends power through a 2-speed transfer case to all 4-wheels. Now, this truck may not win any drag races, but all of these upgrades make it far more pleasant to drive than a standard Series IIA. The Series Land Rovers are true icons of the automotive world, and even decades after they went out of production, are still relied upon around the world. If you want to experience what a truly great Series II example feels like from behind the wheel, this one has had all of the hard work done, and is ready to be enjoyed. Key Features Comprehensive Mechanical and Cosmetic Restoration $60,000 in Receipts from Dare Britannia 2.25-Liter Inline-4 Gasoline Engine Upgrade 4-Speed Gearbox Full Synchromesh from Series III Power Disc Brakes 2-Speed Transfer Case Power Takeoff Unit Capstan Winch Hemp Rope Hood Mounted Spare Cabin Heater Fold Down Windscreen Canvas Soft Top For more information on this 1964 Land Rover 88 Series IIA or any of our 100+ Luxury, High-Performance, Exotic, and Special Interest cars always in stock, contact one of our friendly and knowledgeable sales consultants or always feel free to drop by our 40,000+ sq ft of Indoor Showrooms in Bellevue, WA - Home of an Exciting Inventory of Luxury, Exotic, High Performance and Collectible Automobiles.
