This vehicle started its journey as part of a special order of Land Rovers ordered by the South African Defenseforce in the early 90’s.These vehicles were issued as standard with a Galvanized Frame,Galvanized Bulkhead,Grid type Bull-bar, 5 Speed R380 gearbox and the then new 200 Tdi motor,Air-conditioningas well as Power assisted steering.
Land Rover built too many of these vehicles for the order and a number of them was sold into the civilian market in the end.
This particular vehicle was purchased by a missionary based in Cape Town that worked the whole of Southern Africa and he used it for years, this is also the reason for the vehicle being fitted out for overlanding and camping.Later he opted for a more comfortable option in the form of a Discovery as he got older and that is when we purchased it.
The vehicle was bought by us with the intention of doing a complete refurbishment, but after inspecting the vehicle it was decided that because of the very good overall condition of the vehicle and the complete absence of rust the bodywork will be kept original with no work.We did however do a complete mechanical check with extensive work carried out to make sure the vehicle is mechanically sound and ready to keep going for the next 25 years. This included the normal major service items like the timing belt,wheel-bearings,all fluids, change of aircon gas etc.All records of the work carried out are available.
