1972 Jeep Wagoneer
This is a really solid classic wagoneer. It's been a local rig for a long time. These old classic 4x4's are great rigs to restore, use for play, or both. The vintage wagoneers have very high re-sale when restored. This jeep runs and drives but will need minor work before being a daily driver. The body is in nice shape for an un-restored wagoneer. Very little rust. It's still the factory butterscotch gold (orange) paint. This is a clean wagoneer to just do some work to and drive, but also a great candidate for a full restoration. MECHANICALThis wagoneer has the 360 V8 with automatic transmission. I'm pretty sure the motor is original, but I can check the engine numbers. Not all vehicle's have the vin on the engine. I'm not sure about the wagoneers, but I can research that. The engine runs nice. it has an exhaust leak on the passengers side. Once it's warmed up, you can barely hear it. One of the exhaust bolts is broken off. The motor runs smooth and does not miss. It doesn't have blowby. It runs cool and I let it sit and idle for an hour. This is an A/C rig but the ac compressor is gone I believe. I'll double check that. They sell new compressors and all other a/c parts to get it going again. The motor should have all the fluids changed and the usual tuneup stuff. It's been sitting for years. I'd do the spark plugs, wires and all that stuff. A carb rebuilt wouldn't hurt. It has the 2-barrel carb. They do make aluminum 4-barrel manifolds for this engine, if you want to upgrade to a 4-barrel or EFI system. This has dual exhaust and it sounds ok but I think most buyers will choose to put a new system on it. It is an older system and exits on the sides in front of the rear wheels. The transmission works great and doesn't slip or anything abnormal. It does leak out the side where the shifter shaft goes into the transmission. This is common on these transmissions. You have to drop the pan to fix it, but I'm sure it should have a filter change anyways. This has the part time transfer case with 2-high, 4-high, and 4-low. That all works great. I drove it in all ranges. The brakes work, but should be checked out. I bled them but it still feels like the master cylinder needs replaced possibly. They are cheap. I would recommend you pull the drums and inspect the brakes also. The tires are older and should be replaced. They may be fine for off road or farm stuff. I didn't drive the jeep on the highway but the tires have been balanced. The wheels are the original steel wheels with original hubcaps. The headlights, taillights, and turn signals work. I did not check the brake lights. The reverse lights do not work. I'm sure that's an easy fix. The heater fan, dash lights, and wipers work. The radio does come on but I'm not sure that the antenna is working. It's got AM! I'm not sure if I even get any am radio stations where I'm at.
BODY
The body is in nice shape for a wagoneer for this year, with very little rust. I have more undercarriage pics I can send. This does have some rust in the rear quarters. Nothing too bad, but if you plan to restore it you'll need to fix that area. New quarter panels are cheap. The floors are very solid with exception of one spot on the drivers side. It's where your foot sits right behind the gas pedal. That is a 4"x6" spot approximately. It has been repaired to be usable. If being restored, a patch panel should be welded in there. The rest of the floors are solid and I have many pics of the floors from underneath. There are a few dings you can see in the pics but nothing real major. I would drive it the way it is. I can possibly help you find a nicer grille. I see them on ebay also and there are companies that car restore yours or sell you a restored one. The rear window doesn't roll down. This is common in these. This one is not electric, so it should be pretty easy to fix. At least one door glass is cracked. These are easy to get cut by a glass shop and cheap, if you choose to fix and cracked flat glass. The windshield is cracked but usable. New windshields are inexpensive and readily available. All of the doors, and door windows operate properly. The hood opens and closes properly.
INTERIOR
The interior needs complete restoration. Some buyers may choose to use certain things. I'm sure you could put a new carpet in it and seat covers and use it. The pics tell the story. The seats need recovered. The carpet is bad. The headliner is bad. Complete carpet kits are available. I see alot of nice door panels available online. New headliners are available. I'm not sure if replacement seat upholstery is available, but an upholsterer can do it back to original. The original radio seems to work. The dash hasn't been cutup.
