1979 Jeep CJ Additional Info:

If you're looking for a beautiful, reliable, survivor grade Jeep CJ5 Golden Eagle, look no further! This Jeep is extremely solid. I purchased this Jeep last year outof Santa Paula, California because of what it offers! This CJ5 is a true "H-code" (factory V8) survivor in one of the most desirable color codes offered by AMC: 9A Alpaca Brown (only offered in 79' and 80'). This Jeep was sold new in southern California and was owned by the previous owner (AMC enthusiast) for many years. This Jeep drives, shifts, and handles excellent with no known drivetrain issues.

  • Desirable 304 V8 Motor
  • T150 3-speed manual shift transmission
  • Dana 20 dual range transfer case
  • Mostly original paint

Included are the original Levi tan OEM seats and a Levi tan bikini top. These original seats are in poor condition, but buttons are salvageable should the new buyer want to reupholster the seats.

    Vehicle History

This spent most of its life in the dry climate of Santa Paula, CA, which is just northwest of Los Angeles. Seller purchased the Jeep from an avocado farmer who owned it for several years as part of his small Jeep collection.

    Issues

This CJ has no rust present other than an isolate very small "through area" on the driver side fender. The floorboards are outstanding. Frame is outstanding also. Engine runs extremely strong. Jeep handles wonderfully. There is an intermittent "winding noise" that is coming from I believe the alternator bearing. I suspect the alternator pulley/bearing will need to be replaced to eliminate this noise. The previous owner stated the old carb had a fire around 2010. At that time, the engine was pulled and rebuild. There is some evidence of spot painting inside the engine compartment presumably from this minor fire. The hood also shows minor waves when you look very closely. The hood eagle one the outside is also missing in some areas due to the fire. I have a new hood eagle that is included with the Jeep.

    Final Thoughts

This Jeep "needs" nothing. It's got character, is reliable, and has the perfect patina look to it. Should you decide to paint it back to make it perfect, it'll be an easy job as it doesn't need body work aside from a small patch on the driver fender. Overall, a tough-to-beat example of an awesome CJ that will bring years and years of enjoyment.
