1979 Jeep CJ5 Golden Eagle Additional Info:

This 1979 Jeep CJ5 Golden Eagle was purchased by the seller from the second owner in Santa Paula, CA. This Jeep sold new in SoCal and spent its life there until I purchased back in February and brought it to Tucson. The previous owner owned a small avocado farm and used the vehicle sparingly. The Jeep has mostly original paint, beautiful patina, and very minimal/isolated rust. The only rust can be found on the bottom of the front driver side fender, which is just unfortunately one of the rust-prone ares on these old CJs. The floor boards, frame, and rest of the body is overall outstanding. There is a small dent on the back driver side rear quarter where the previous owner must have backed into something. This dent can easily be removed by a PDR expert for very minimal costs. This Jeep reportedly suffered a small carburetor fire around 2010. At that time, the engine was removed from the engine compartment, resealed, painted, and reinstalled. The underside of the hood and the firewall also were painted and overall looks very good. The Jeep comes with a replacement hood eagle sticker decal should the new owner want to paint the hood and install a new decal. The hood does have very minor warpage (barely noticeable, you really have to look for it) from the fire.
The term "H-code" denotes the letter "H" in the VIN, which indicates this Jeep came with the upgraded 304 V8 motor. Most Jeeps did not have this motor as it was a highly desirable option for the Golden Eagle package. This Golden Eagle is also color code 9A "Alpaca Brown," which was only offered by AMC in 79 and 80.
Below are some of the highlights, but between the rarity of a survivor-grade CJ5 Golden Eagle, overall condition, CA clean metal and the fact it's a timeless classic investment that'll only increase in value, this Jeep is a "no brainer" for the enthusiast or collector.
  • Golden Eagle trim package
  • Desirable 304 V8 Motor
  • T150 3-speed manual shift transmission
  • Dana 20 dual range transfer case
  • Mostly original paint
  • Tilt column
  • Rust free floorboards and frame
  • All gauges with exception of OEM clock are functional
  • Lights, turn signals, back up lamps all functional
  • Aftermarket 2-post radio with auxiliary inputs
  • Like-new Bestop soft top with clear windows

Included by the seller are the original Levi tan OEM seats and a Levi tan bikini top. Unfortunately the seats are in overall poor condition, but the Levi buttons are salvageable should the new buyer want to reupholster the seats. The engine runs strong, shifts excellent, and handles well. There is a winding noise coming from the alternator which isn't too bad, but I imagine the alternator will need to be replaced down the road.
