1971 Jaguar XKE V 12 2+2 Coupe
History
Previous owner purchased car in Los Angeles, CA through a Jaguar Dealership and drove cross country to Indiana during the 80's. He decided to do a show-quality restoration using many original parts from Jaguar as well as Welsh Jaguar, Special Interest Car parts, etc..
I purchased this car several years ago and am reluctantly selling due to lack of time to finish and enjoy. At present, car requires some "light" assembly work including Interior, Glass re-installation, and chrome trim installation to make it complete.
Interior
Trimmed in Biscuit
Complete new Carpet Kit (NOS)
Complete under felt Kit (goes under Carpet)
New GW Bartlett Interior (complete)
Driver and Passenger Seats were professionally recovered by GW Bartlett
Original Seat Belts
Rear Seat is in original condition with one minor blemish.
Rear luggage board vinyl in great condition.
Rear wheel arch Covers are "loosely installed" and will require final installation.
Headliner
Original Headliner was mounted to a foam “shell” and has since been removed from the vehicle. New Headliner material (Mohair) and foam would be required and can be purchased through OSJI (Muncie, IN). Sun Visors and Headliner Header piece also require recovering
RH and LH Cantrails require re-covering. Roll of vinyl material for re-covering these parts is included with the car.
Body
Finished in Regency Red
Body was stripped and painted during the past restoration process. The car exhibits "driver" quality paint finish that shows some signs of aging. There is a very small rust spot on the rear quarter's flare (less than dime-size). Remainder of car does not have any rust as floors and rockers are absolutely solid!
Underside of Bonnet was re-finished and looks sharp!
All (4) Jacking Points (underneath car) are in perfect solid condition
New Rubber Kit included
Glass
Triplex Windshield - New Old Stock (NOS), Door, Quarter, and Rear Windows are in very nice condition.
New Rubber Gaskets are included.
Windshield and Rear Hatch Glass will require installation.
Chrome
Bumpers, over-riders, trim, parking brake handle, etc. was re-chromed.
New pieces of chrome were purchased (Pillars at Windshield, Grille surround, Gutter Channel, etc.) Some of the NOS parts came from Jaguar were still in the original wrappers!
Mechanicals
Engine starts up and runs very well. Engine is literally “new” as it had a factory crate short-block installed by the Dealership in California where the car was purchased by the second owner.
Engine has been detailed nicely
Carburetor’s were recently rebuilt.
Rear end has been rebuilt, detailed, and includes new Koni Shocks.
Conclusion
If you are looking for an affordable project car that does not require as much work as an “original” barn find that could potentially require hours of restoration work and huge expenses, this car would be more ideal as a significant investment in the chrome, interior, and mechanics have already been made making it a much more cost-effective project. These cars are becoming harder to find, increasing in value, and are fetching upwards of $55K+ in the marketplace in restored condition. This car offers lots of potential.
