1947 International Harvester Other Montana Barn Find Additional Info:
1947 International KB-5 Original Montana Barn Find! With only 42,968 miles, this is a really nice original working Montana ranch truck. The ORIGINAL GREEN PAINT has a great patina. Clear Montana title in hand. WWII military bed. Call Marcus 406-360-8628 with any questions.
Engine: The engine starts and runs very strong! Not long after starting it idles well. The low-end torque is amazing. You can just lift the clutch at idle. The engine is the original International GRD-233. They are famous for durability. It holds its fluids and does not drip water or oil, which is pretty amazing! The oil was changed when taken out of storage. The gas tank was removed and cleaned. The lines were cleaned. With a fresh fluids and new wires, cap, and rotor, the engine fired right up after 30+ years without a problem! I am sure it could use a little further tuning, but this is a very solid original engine. Very rare in this condition.
Body: The K and KB series Internationals are known to have handsome bodywork. The Frenched headlights and alligator hood were very modern in their day. This KB5 has the original paint and well earned patina. This is a dry area and the cab is almost rust free. There is a small spot on each toe kick on the inside. This is probably from boots tracking snow during winter hay feedings. The rest of the cab is extremely solid. PLEASE SEE PICTURES FOR CONDITION! Seat has new foam and cover is fairly cozy. This cab is very clean and free of mouse debris. Glass is pretty good with some age bubbles and cracks, especially in the rear window. Body is in excellent condition for its age but has small dents, dings, scratches, faded paint, and patina - just like it should!
Chassis: The KB5 trucks have larger brakes, wider springs, and stiffer frames for better handling and stopping. The chassis is in good condition. It mostly carried hay and grain which are light The heavy duty hand brake works good, but the hydraulic brakes need the usual bleeding and other attention after sitting. The tires hold air for the most part, but are a bit old for highway service. The DAYTON WHEELS are very nice and have several advantages over Budd disk wheels. Modern 22.5" tubeless radials are a DIRECT BOLT ON if you want to run those. Comes with original Dayton wheel tool.
Bed: The bed is WWII military surplus with heavy duty metal sides. The oak plank flooring is good except for a few need replacing. The tailgate works good.
History: This truck was used for many years by the old Sawhill Ranch here in Western Montana. It was most likely a Forest Service truck that was fitted with a surplus WWII military bed. Local ranchers would buy the surplus Government trucks at auction every spring. This truck was used in ranch service as a hay and feed truck in the 40's, 50's, and 60's. Lastdriven on the highwayin 1972, this truck was probably driven around the ranch periodically until the 80's when it was put intolong term storage for the last 30 years.
Auction: This auction is NO RESERVE, NO BUY IT NOW. Highest bidder wins. Deposit due in 48 hrs, remainder due in 7 days. Please contact me following the auction so we canarrangepayment and shipping. If you need a shipping quote I can recommend shippers. Shipping is buyers responsibility.
Condition: This truck runs and drives and stops good enough to bumble around the ranch, but will need some reconditioning to be taken on the highway or haul a load. It is an original working barn find, not a restored truck.
Thanks for checking out this cool old truck!
