1979 International Harvester Scout Rallye with SSII panels Additional Info:
1979 IHC Scout II
Hello everyone,It's time for me to sell my beloved 1979 IHC Scout II. I bought this Scout brand new from the International dealer in Miles City, Montana in 1980. I was sent there on my first job out of school and I needed a rugged vehicle. It only has 106,510 miles on it because it has been a garage queen for most of its recent life. It developed the usual Scout rust spots early in its life so I had the body repaired and repainted in 1997. I had it painted in a 1980 IHC color called Tahitian Red. That year my Scout won first place in its class in the Scout Nationals in 1997. It is a beauty queen that has aged gracefully but a few age spots have developed on it over the years. The paint has a few bad spots that have been touched up and a few small rust spots have developed in the usual places in the corners of the wheel wells. The rockers and body mounts are all solid.
This 1979 Scout has been upgraded with some 1980 model year improvements such as the 3-degree caster wedges for better tracking down the highway and the extra sheet metal sections behind the rear wheels to keep the dirt and salt water from splashing up behind the rear panels.
This Scout has been maintained with the best parts available. Synthetic oils, greases, and fluids have always been used. The engine has never been out of the Scout and it has never had the heads off. I got tired of fooling with the original Carter Thermoquad carb to make it run correctly so I installed an Edelbrock carb on it several years ago and what a fantastic improvement that made! I am including the Edelbrock jet kit in case you want to play with it. I needed to cut a hole in the hood to fit the carb so I added the hood scoop to it. The EGR valve, Catalytic Converter, and Air Injection System have been "removed". Now this engine runs better than new! The proper IHC plugs for the Air Injection System have been installed in the heads. The A/C has been converted to R-134 in the past but it lost its charge and needs recharged.
Here are some upgrades that have been made to it over the years:1. Auxiliary Transmission Fluid Cooler2. Auxiliary Power Steering Fluid Cooler3. Auxiliary Coolant Filter like the big trucks use (extra filters included)4. Front and Rear Anti-Sway Bars5. Front Tow Hooks6. Class 3 Tow Hitch Receiver with Trailer Electrical Plug7. American Racing Chrome Wheels8. Rancho Shocks9. Greaseable Front Ball Joints10. Remote Starter Solenoid - avoids hot start issues11. Kenwood Stereo with Blaupunkt Speakers12. Tachometer13. Accel Plug Wires and Coil14. Storage Cover included.15. Polyurethane bushings have replaced the rubber stock bushings in the leaf springs16. Upgraded 75-amp Alternator17. Hella Headlights with relayed high wattage bulbs18. SSII front and rear panels19. Third Brake Light in rear hatch window20. Edelbrock carburetor with insulating gasket21. Mesh screen in windshield cowl22. Hood Scoop
Three extra Edelbrock air filters are included along with an extra, proper Shaw Thermostat for the 345 engine. Only one style of thermostat works correctly in this 345 engine and this is it. A new transmission filter, spark plug cap and rotor are also included. A box of Scout articles on repairs and misc. memorabilia are included. The original 1979 International dealer sales brochure is included.
I have a ton of photos so please feel free to ask for additional photos. Unfortunately, Ebay limits how many we can post in these listings and I am not smart enough to figure out how to post any more.
The buyer is responsible for any shipping needed. I will be happy to work with you on the shipping arrangements.
Many thanks for looking and good luck!
