1973 International Harvester Scout II 4X4 LOW RESERVE Additional Info:
Really nice, stock and original, great running and driving, highly optioned 1973 International-Harvester Scout II with the big 345cid V8, automatic transmission, Dana 20 transfer case and only 2 owners in 44 years.
The interior is all original with zero modifications. Dash is excellent with no cutting or butchery of any kind. Ignition switch should be replaced (it's a GM part) but I just use vise grips for now and she fires right up. It is optioned out with the Custom Interior Package which gives you styled door panels, nylon seat inserts, courtesy lights, lighter, parking brake warning lamp, color-keyed carpeting, tinted glass and dual horns. Plus it has air conditioning (untested but the AC fan works). All gauges work (other than speedo/odo) as does the original AM radio. Wipers do not work. All glass other than cracked flat windshield is in good condition. Driver side door window is difficult to roll up and down.
The exterior was resprayed once long ago in Ceylon Green which is an original factory color. Body has typical Scout II rust issues. Please ask for my additional pictures which provide close-ups of the exterior and undercarriage. It is optioned out with the Deluxe Exterior Package which gives you the bright grille and windshield trim, side window, front and rear lamp trim, dual chrome mirrors (missing), stainless steel wheel covers (long ago replaced with white spoke wheels), and a chrome front bumper. Drivers door hinge is worn so door must be lifted to shut securely (and can only be opened with outside door handle). Most exterior lights work. Rear hatch does not latch.
The running gear represents the greatest strength of this Scout II. Again, it is optioned out withthe big 345cid V8, automatic transmission and Dana 20 transfer case. Front differential is an open knuckle Dana 30 (with optional I-H Lock-O-Matic locking hubs) and the rear is a Dana 44 (with optional Powr-Lok locking differential) with power drum brakes on all 4 corners. It also has power steering. I was told the engine and transmission were both rebuilt many years but less than 5,000 miles ago by the guy who rebuilt the engine who was a friend of both owners. The way it runs and drives seems to confirm it. Exhaust is a newer 2 into one with a turbo-style muffler. And it just passed emissions testing with flying colors!
This is an awesome stock and original Scout II with especially strong running gear. It is ready to be a daily driver and put to use today. You can either work on the cosmetics as you drive it or just leave it the way it is and enjoy it. Vintage SUV's are rapidly climbing in value and the steep appreciation curve of early Ford Bronco's and Toyota Land Cruiser's is pulling up the value of Scout's and Jeep CJ's (especially if they have not been modified). I just want it to find a good home where it will be well-preserved for future generations to appreciate.
