1960 International Harvester BC-170 4X4 Additional Info:
This Truck started out as a Marine Corps Brush Fire Truck. It was sold to FEMA for a buck and got the yellow paint. It was then sold to Palomar Mountain Fire Department for a buck. They put a big water tank on it. A Volunteer Fireman was going down the mountain with a load of water and ran out of brakes. Ran out of parking brake. Motor blew and stopped the truck.I got a donor 345 out of a Scout, pulled it down, cleaned and detailed it, put all new seals and gaskets, brass freeze plugs, water tubes, new water pump, rebuilt alternator, installed a carb kit, new ignition wires, etc, etc. It has the big high-flow thermostat housing and a new thermostat. It ran well a couple of years ago, the last time I started it. I would want to oil the motor thoroughly before attempting to start it now, which I am happy to do if I get a serious buyer.I blocked the rear axle up and ran through the gears and ranges at idle or better, it is all good. Fresh axle and tranny lube 10 years ago.The tranny has a "Tangen Power Drive" PTO in the top cover. It is missing a gear so the PTO doesn't turn, but it is a simple gear and would be easy to have made. Very unusual PTO.The truck needs to have the Brake Vacuum Booster rebuilt. I have a more modern Bosch Vacuum Power Brake Booster unit that goes with the truck. It will need to have the brake linings and brake drums de-glazed, maybe new linings.Good but old rubber, 9.00 X 20 mounted on 6-Hole Steel Disc Wheels. I have 6 Commercial Truck Tires mounted on the same type wheels that you can have for $400.The Driver Side Glass is missing, it's flat glass and easily made.It has a big under-bed box on the driver side,. There is a dual battery setup that sits in the front end of the box. Dual battery selector switch on the floor under the driver seat. The truck has a big transfer case, Rockwell T223, IH TC-155. 4-Speed Shifter, H-N-L Lever, Front Axle IN-OUT Lever, and parking brake lever on the tunnel. The truck needs brake work. It has really low axle ratios, I bet top speed is 50 MPH. You will not be able to drive it away. I had it brought down from Mt. Palomar on a Tilt-Bed Car Carrier, it's not very heavy. Cab & Chassis. I'm getting older and need to pick the projects I'm going to finish. This truck is unusual and really sharp when painted.Clean Title, Currently Registered California NON-OP Historical Vehicle. It will run and drive itself onto a trailer or carrier.
