1978 International Harvester Scout Additional Info:
Really solid 1978 International Scout II Rallye in Terra Cotta with white top. I bought this truck about seven years ago. It had it's original paint and interior when I got it, the only rust on the truck was above the rear wheels on the rear quarter panels. It was in such good shape I decided to do a frame on restoration and replaced the two rear quarters with new metal. During the restoration process I had the floors coated with a rust prohibiting product and then sound dreading material installed under the carpet. Brand new carpet from the rear seat forward, the rear vinyl cargo mat was in such good shape I decided to keep it. The door panels are the originals and are in great shape. I had the front and rear seats reupholstered with parchment vinyl that matches the door panel really well. The original dash pad is in great shape, no cracks. It has the original radio that works, but the volume is either quite or loud. The headliner is brand new and looks great. I installed a manual choke cable and electric fuel pump to help with cold starts, the 345 fires right up and runs really good. The truck tracks down the road really well for a 39 year old truck. The tires are Nexen Roadians and virtually brand new.
The bad:Small scratch on the Rallye stripe, see picSmall dent on the drivers side quarter panel. Easily fixed if it bugs you, see picDent and scratch on the passenger side rear quarter just above the exhaust tip, see picSpeedometer is not working, probably a cable issue, I have not had time to trouble shoot.Brake pedal is firm and tough to push down, it's stops fine, but the booster probably needs work.Passenger side front wheel has a broken wheel stud. The exterior trim that runs down both sides has quite a few dents.
All in all a really solid truck that shows 98,000 miles on the odometer, I can't verify the mileage but the condition of the truck when I got it would suggest it to be accurate. It even comes with the original IH keys! Comes with line setting ticket and 1978 owners manual. I took it to Nationals in 2012 and won best 78-79 Rallye. Its a great truck, I hate to see it go, but I just don't drive it very much and it needs a new home.
