1968 GMC Handi-Bus Additional Info:

This 1968 GMC Handi-Bus is essentially the same as the GMC Handi-Van only it has 15 windows. This passenger van has a wheel base of 109 inches and is built on a full frame with a posi-traction, 1/2 truck leaf spring rear axle. The front end is also a leaf spring type with a solid axle. Steering is the same components as a Chevy II. It sports the original 307 cubic inch V8, 2 speed Powerglide automatic transmission, manual 4 wheel drum brakes side pipes and an AM radio. Power steering and AC was not available on this model. At some time in the not to distant past, electric power steering was added. It starts very easy and runs, drives, stops, shifts and steers. I am putting new tires on it this week. It needs a heater core and will need a radiator in the not to distant future. All the lights works, the horn does not. There is no liner in the glove box and the vent window on the passenger door won't close and latch. The doors all open and close but the handles/latches are a little wonky. The heater blower motor works.
The paint looks good from 10 foot. The underside is very solid. There is evidence of prior rust repair in the front passenger area floors. The main floor area, rock panels, box sides and doors and corners are very solid. The worst rust is in the right front passenger floor area (see pics). The glass is all good and the hinges windows open and close like they should. The door glasses both roll up and down easy. There are no seat belts bolted in the van. I do have the original front belts with retractors and they work but need a good cleaning prior to install.
When I got it, it had red carpet in the rear area and rubber bed mat material in the front floor area. I took all the floor coverings out. I still have to be used as a template for the next owner if they choose. The rear seats, one bench and two buckets are not bolted down. All the seats covers are in great shape.
I have never seen another one of these vans and probably never will. From my research, GMC only made a couple thousand of them from 1967 to 1970. The GMC Handi-Van out sold the Handi-bus 100 to 1.
