1978 GMC Vandura G35 Additional Info:
1978 GMC G35 VanDura 1-ton Van
Four wheel drive conversion done by Pathfinder based in California. Pathfinder performed 4x4 van conversions for the big 3 automakers in the 70's. These conversions were sold as new by the car dealers in that era. It starts up front with a leaf sprung Dana 44 with Pathfinder labeled locking hub units. Then they installed a bullet proof NP205 gear to gear transfer case, behind the factory TH350 automatic. The T-case handle carries the Pathfinder logo. The rear is a limited slip 14 bolt corporate unit with 4.10 gears.
This van has been in southern California throughout all of its three owners. The second owner purchased this van when it had 6,000 miles and used it for hunting and camping trips to Mexico and Montana. He was responsible for having it painted at Bob's Auto Body in El Cajon, CA. The original 400ci engine was replaced with a 350cu. in. at 74,000 miles, supposedly the 350 had 64k miles on it at the time of the exchange. The transmission was previously re-built but supporting documentation was not provided.
I purchased the van a few months back after speaking to the previous owner and finding out that the van had been parked under a tree and not driven for 10+ years. The front of the van was covered in 3-4 inches in leaves. I have spent hours cleaning and polishing and finding that the majority of the paint and body is in fairly good shape. I installed another set of BF Goodrich All-Terrain 33/12.50R16.50 tires (dated 2003) as the tires were in bad shape. A new battery has been installed, engine oil and filter replaced, brake master cylinder replaced, steering shock replaced, power steering pressure hose repaired and the interior was removed. The exterior lights were all checked and are functioning including turn signals and brake lights. Windshield wipers were replaced and do function. I have been driving the van 1-2 days a week, the engine starts and runs well, the transmission shift is firm through all gears. It is registered "non-operational" and I have a clean CA title in my name. (The tags expire next month) It will not currently pass CA smog inspection.
This unique van has tons of potential. Vehicle is sold "as is."
