The 1971 model year brought a complete redesign to the Ford Mustang, with the Mach 1 SportsRoof receiving a longer, wider body and some of the most aggressive styling of the original Mustang era. At the top of Ford's performance lineup was the J-code 429 Super Cobra Jet with the Drag Pack, combining functional Ram Air induction, a close-ratio four-speed manual transmission, and a performance-oriented rear axle.

According to the Deluxe Marti Report, only 531 Mustang Mach 1 SportsRoofs were built for 1971 with the 429 Super Cobra Jet and Drag Pack combination.

This 1971 Ford Mustang Mach 1 is a fully numbers-matching J-code 429 Super Cobra Jet equipped with the Drag Pack, functional Ram Air, a close-ratio four-speed manual transmission, and a 3.91 Traction-Lok rear axle. Finished in its factory Black over Black color combination, it received a complete rotisserie restoration by Blue Oval Car Barn in Texas and was returned to its original Ford specifications.

This Mustang was ordered on January 29, 1971, and built at Ford's Dearborn assembly plant on February 9, 1971. It was sold new on February 22 1971 through Abel Ford Inc. in Revere, Massachusetts. The Deluxe Marti Report identifies it as one of 201 examples produced with its Black paint and Black interior codes.

During the restoration, the Mustang was completely disassembled to its bare unibody shell. The car retains all of its factory-original body panels, with only two localized patch repairs completed on the floor pans. The body, engine compartment, interior, suspension, drivetrain, chassis, and undercarriage were restored using factory-style colors, finishes, hardware, decals, inspection markings, and assembly details. The undercarriage also displays factory-style primer colors, overspray patterns, paint daubs, and component markings consistent with the restoration's attention to originality.

Power comes from the numbers-matching 429-cubic-inch Super Cobra Jet V8, factory rated at 375 horsepower and equipped with functional Ram Air induction. The engine is paired with its numbers-matching close-ratio four-speed manual transmission and a 3.91:1 Traction-Lok rear axle. Additional equipment includes power-assisted front disc brakes, dual exhaust, and the factory Instrumentation Group.

The body has been refinished in its original Black paint and features the Mach 1's contrasting argent hood and lower-body treatment, body-side tape stripes, functional dual-scoop Ram Air hood, hood twist locks, color-keyed sport mirrors, Mach 1 graphics, chrome bumpers, and Magnum 500 wheels. The restored Black interior includes vinyl bucket seats, a center console, factory tachometer and auxiliary gauges, an AM radio, and a floor-mounted four-speed shifter.
