The Ford Galaxie came in a variety of configurations-4 door sedan, 4 door hardtop, 2 doorsedan and the 2 door hardtop coupe ("fastback") like the one you see here. There were engine options aplenty, ranging from a 223 ci six cylinder all the way up to a 427ci V8. One of the rarest of all was the 390 PI or "PoliceInterceptor. The "P" code 390 engine had solid lifters, a 4 barrel carburetor andproduced 330HP compared to the 300HP of the standard "Z" code 390. The Police Interceptor also came with heavier duty suspension, brakes and road wheels. Just 42 "P" code Galaxie hardtop coupes wereproduced.
This "P" code Galaxie has been refurbished to a very nice driver standard. It is painted and trimmed in its extremely rare original color combination of Dynasty Green (D) with beige (74) upholstery. (The Dynasty Green is more of a torquiseand bluer than green. The color on the car is spot on when compared to a factory color chip.)
The paint is extremely shiny with virtually no orange peel. There are a couple of chips, mostnotably on the edge of the driver's door and the trunk lid edge. An over zealous detailer slightly burned the paint on a small area while buffing on the right rear fender raised edge. There are a couple of minor bubbles around the rear deck between the window and the trunk-see photos. The chrome and anodized trim all around the car is excellent. Panel fit is very good. There is evidence of bondo high on the left rear fender upon very close inspection.
The interior is excellent, except for some discoloration at the bottom of the driver's door panel. There are no rips or tears in any of the seats, carpet or headliner. Seat belts have been installed. The dash and gauges are excellent and functional. An aftermarket tachometer has been mounted to the right side of the steering column. A modern bluetooth retro style radio is installed. The electrical systems all function as they should except for the clock.
The engine fires immediately and runs beautifully with tons of power. The carburetor has recently been rebuilt. There are no leaks, no smoke and no issues with the engine. The engine bay is correctly painted and detailed. The clutch is smooth and quiet. The transmission shifts perfectly. The brakes and suspension are excellent. This Galaxie goes down the road nice and tight.
The California black and yellow license plates are applied to the car under the CA DMV YOM (Year of manufacture) program and will not be included in the sale unless the buyer is in California. There is a clear California title in my name.
Here's a super rare Galaxie that needs nothing to be enjoyed right now. It is a great driver quality car that runs and drives as good as it looks. Ultra limited production muscle cars like this are enjoying value appreciation at the front of the classic car market. This one's priced to sell and you won't find another one like it.
