1967 Ford LTD Coupe
One of the cutest ads came up from the Blue oval for the 1967 LTD. It featured a mischievous tot sitting in the front seat exposing "We have a cat, a dog, a rabbit and a 67 Ford. My father always buys Fords because they never give him any trouble. Our new Ford has a light that tells you the door is not shut...a stereo tape player...automatic speed control....and one thing my father does not know about... (A frog I'm keeping in the glove compartment!)
For consignment, a 1967 version of the Ford LTD. A bit more upscale car for the suburbia family, this example is optioned in a rare format. It is in beautiful condition and runs very smoothly.
Exterior
Dual stacked headlights lead the way and flank a chromed egg crate outward V grille, matching bumper below and hood above to keep the shape of the bow. Wimbledon white covers the straight steel panels minding their gaps. There are a few battle scars mainly on the front quarters at the "fold above the wheel well, and a few drips on a door panel, otherwise nice respray. Chrome trimmings wrap around the front quarters starting at the front bumper, run around the wheel wells upfront, and then through the doors, above the rockers, around the rear wheel wells and on past the rear quarters. Even continuing to encircle the car on the back of the trunk lid between the rectangular taillights. All this trimming and the window surrounds and mirrors are looking shiny and bright. A very nice black vinyl top is tightly attached to the roof and B pillars and has an LTD badge on either side. No rust bubbling on this top! 15-inch standard wheel covers are on all 4 corners.
Interior
A swing of each beautifully restored door and we see a fine mixture of tuck and roll and buttoned black vinyl on one panel, some smooth vinyl bordered by a wood appliqu with near perfect door handles mirror toggle on driver's door, and armrest and handle. Below, on the bottoms is a strip of black carpet and a courtesy light. Nice chrome "tubs" hold the front split black bench up front and on back is a long and wide rear bench. seating for 3 adults or 4 kids. Vinyl bolsters and cloth inserts are making up the covering, and there are slight lighter spots on the driver's seat. (possibly from the wifey or pop spilling their coffee on the way home from dropping off the kids at baseball). Original dash upfront, black carpet below, and black headliner above all looking good!
Drivetrain
The engine bay is showing fairly clean with a coating of dust and some patina. This is a 390ci V8 dropped within topped by a 2-barrel carburetor and an MX 3 speed Cruise-O-Matic auto transmission. On the back is a 2.75 rear axle within a Ford 9-inch pumpkin.
Undercarriage
Surface rust owns the usual suspects (rear suspension, driveshaft, front suspension) but otherwise solid full frame construction, floorpans, and rockers, as well as clean wheel wells. Independent coil springs for the front, and a 3 link with coil springs for the back along with power drum brakes all around. A new muffler is now installed.
Drive-Ability
A quick starter, and smooth driver, good solid braking, and nice handling. All functions were working just great during my test drive.
All nice, clean, and good solid example from 1967 Ford in LTD trimmings. And I looked, there is no frog (or remains thereof) in the glovebox!
