1979 Ford F150 XLT Ranger Trailer Special 4x4extended cab. This is a rare and unique truck. Most trailer Specials came outof the factory as F250's. This truck is +7a F150. Trailer Specials came withheavier duty suspension, (Springs and Shocks), pre wired for trailer electrichook ups, larger radiator, brake controller, reversible side mirrors that canbe reversed and turned out to give the driver a wider view while towing atrailer, and duel battery's. There is only one battery in the truck now but thecables are still there to hook up another battery. This truck would beconsidered a heavy half ton. It came from the factory with front leaf springsinstead of the standard coil springs found on F150's. The las four numbers ofthe VIN are all 0's indicting this truck was the first truck with the XLTRanger Trailer Special package produced for calendar year 1979. See picture ofVIN. The truck has a 351M motor with a Holley Four Barrel carburetor. I believethe Holley Four Barrel is stock though I can't be certain. It has a C6automatic transmission which shifts very smooth. It has power steering, powerbrakes and cruise control. The cruise control does not work. The truck runs anddrives very nice. The four wheel drive works as it should and it has limitedslip rear ends in both the rear and front end. I also found the build sheetunder the seat. The build sheet is old and brittle but you can make out most ofthe options that the truck came with. The truck is almost all original. Theonly things I can find that have been changed are 1, the smog pump has beenremoved. 2, someone modified the alternator bracket but it is still functional.3, the truck came with two fuel tanks but one has been disconnected. 4, anelectric fuel pump has been added. I assume the electric fuel pump was added toeliminate vapor locking. The truck has some rust above the rear fender wellswhich someone cut out. There is a little rust developing behind the rear wheelsbut the rust spots are small and can be easily patched. The rest of the truckis pretty much rust free except for surface rust that you see in the pictures. All in all in good shape for a 1979. This truck was once a farm truck and thereare a couple dings and small dents but nothing major. It came from the factorywith air conditioning but the A/C compressor belt is not there so I'm not sureif it works. The front seat has rips in it which you can see in the picturesbut the two jump seats in the back are in real good shape. No rips or tears. All of the seat belts are still in the truck. I purchased the truck a couple ofmonths ago with the plan of driving it for a couple of years and then restoringit. But things changed due to too many other projects I have. This is a verycool and, as far as I can tell, rare truck. I personally have never seen a F150Trailer Special until this one. Feel free to call with any questions. Steve -719-244-8075.
