1936 Ford Phaeton Additional Info:
Here's a coveted classic that absolutely radiates class. This 1936 Ford Phaeton makes an entrance like no other. Its spacious, open air form wears a great exterior color and it's had the good fortune to have spent a good part of its life safely sheltered in an air-conditioned building, only to emerge in impressively clean condition. It not only looks great, but its strong running condition is something you rarely see in a car of this vintage.
As the '30s reached their midpoint, Ford came to realize that its offerings were beginning to look a little dated, so they set about creating more modern and stylish models in an effort to reassert dominance in an ever more competitive automotive market. Featuring an opulent overall style and a thoroughly refreshed appearance, this Phaeton was a proud member of that resulting class whose resounding success translated into more than 800,000 units sold in just its first year. It's decked out in a great looking crème-colored shade, and with its full-size spare encased in a matching case mounted in back, this '36 is simply an awesome automobile. Examine its lengthy form up close and you won't find any dings or dents of note and its collection of chrome brightwork is in great shape - the greyhound ornament looming over the hood is looking particularly sharp. A sheltered existence has definitely paid dividends as far as its tan convertible top is concerned. Featuring a clear glass rear window, it raises into position and fits nicely and, while one of its rear bows is cracked, its replacement is on premises and ready for installation.
Climb inside and you'll be surrounded by a sharp tan interior that mixes vinyl and Naugahyde for just the right authentic vintage appearance. The expansive front bench seat does show a couple of minor hairline cracks, but it's in otherwise great shape and is bracketed by very clean matching door panels. The overall condition of this classic Ford is really impressive - even the quarter trim panels are well fitted and smooth, without any hint of UV damage. Beyond the original, banjo style steering wheel, a pair of aftermarket gauges to keep tabs on operating temperature and oil pressure - one of the only deviations from stock you'll find - join their parchment-faced factory counterparts on the dash, which itself appears very clean with a nice, glossy finish and supple looking dash pad across the top. Below sits a suitably antique Southwind heater to keep you and your passengers nice and warm. In the interest of enhanced safety, modern seatbelts have been installed in both front and back.
This Phaeton features a smile-inducing running condition - as much as you'll want to spend plenty of time admiring its outstanding looks, it's very capable of taking to the asphalt right away. Power comes via a 239 cubic inch flathead V8 lifted from a '48 Ford that has a scrubbed clean appearance and fires up promptly, pulls with enthusiasm and is paired with a 3-speed manual transmission. A 6V alternator takes the place of the original generator and, while the electrical system is functioning just fine as is, replacing it with a more modern 12v system would enhance real world dependability. The undercarriage is in outstanding shape and from below you can see the X-bracing put into play to maximize structural rigidity. This impressive, generously proportioned classic cruises on a set of 16" vintage chrome wheels outfitted with ultra-clean whitewall tires.
Antique cars from this era are hard to come by and the unusually solid running condition of this 1936 Ford Phaeton makes it even more of a standout. Call today!
