Sure, this 1930 Model A represents quite an opportunity just based on its place in automotive history, but it happens to have a lot more going for it than that. This classic among classics is not only unrelentingly authentic but offers an unusual level of drivability - the experience it features behind the wheel hasn't waned in the least since it first took to roads that were often unpaved nearly 90 years ago. While there's plenty... to like about its counterparts that have gone under the knife for customization, it's nice to see a representative that remains in such thoroughly original configuration. This '30 has been fortunate on a number of fronts, coming through the decades in such strong fashion that it still sports nice tight lines and flush panels everywhere you look, to go along with doors that open and close smoothly. Its antique form sports a pair of full-size windows on each side, as well as smaller additional panes toward the back that no doubt inspired opera windows decades later. It wears a sharp green paint job accented by black along its fenders and running boards that presents nicely and provides yet another period-correct touch, as while Henry Ford had famously declared that black would be the only color option with the Model T before it, but softened his stance by the time the Model A hit the market. Take a lap around the car and you'll find no glaring dents or blemishes and the assortment of chrome on display, including the headlights and signature front grille bearing the Ford logo and prominent ornament, are in very clean shape. Inside the cabin, the tan cloth interior is in good form with the plushly padded bench seat at its center wearing a still-fresh cover whose tuck and roll surface adds a little stylistic flair to the surroundings. Below, the fresh appearance of the matching carpet suggests it was recently replaced. Like the exterior, these surroundings have been well preserved - you'll also find only the slightest of wear on the tops of the door panels and their storage envelopes are even still intact. The functionality inside the cabin is truly impressive - the gauges residing in the clover shaped chrome instrument panel work as intended and are surrounded by the smooth steel of the dash, which is color-matched to the exterior. While this is certainly no ordinary passenger car, there'll be no problems accommodating your backseat travelers in comfort - this cabin is surprisingly spacious, so there's quite a bit of real estate between the two rows of seat, and the trio of window shades surrounding the back of the cabin pull down to keep the glare from intruding. You'll find no compromises to the consistent authenticity this pivotal Ford offers as you take a look under its folding hood, where a period correct flathead 4-cylinder - likely the original powerplant -holds court. While the surfaces of the engine, as well as the walls that surround it, will benefit from a thorough detailing, the running condition of this engine is beyond reproach - armed with its one barrel carb on top, it fires up surprisingly quickly and, runs smoothly as it teams with its 3-speed manual transmission to provide a solid vintage driving experience that will transport you back in time. Truly a sight to behold, this important piece of automotive history rolls on a set of 19" spoked wheels outfitted with 4.75/5.00/19 period correct tires. Representing one of the most pivotal cars to ever amble off an assembly line, this 1930 Ford Model A looks sharp and runs strong, making it an enticing opportunity for the vintage collector.
