The original Ford Capri. Hailed as Ford's first "World Carâ€, it was designed in England and sold worldwide between 1961 and 1964. It failed to make an impact with less than 25,000 built and only 1508 sold in the USA from 1962 to 1964.
This Capri has a build date of December 1962 and was sold new in California as a 63 so there have never been any rust issues. I have owned the Capri for 9 years after buying it from a private car collection here on the West Coast where it had sat unloved over a 10 year period. We completed an extensive bare metal resto-mod restoration about 2 years ago. The Ford performance crossflow engine based on a 711 block bored to 1700cc with mild cam and Type 9 5-speed transmission was installed by the previous owner and I have the full specs for it. For a while I ran twin webers but they proved to be too fussy for everyday driving and I replaced them with a brand new 28/36. The brake system was rebuilt with new master cylinder, rotors, pads, rebuilt calipers and rear wheel cylinders. All chromework was rechromed and stainless trim repolished. Seals and rubber was replaced using new parts from the owners club. The car was rewired using a 12 fuse aftermarket panel that will support additional items like AC, electric windows etc if you want to run them. Gas tank was flushed and sealed, new gas lines installed. New bushings on rear suspension, front suspension converted to Volvo strut inserts with new coil springs. New track rod ends and other front end bushings. The car has had a very high-end paint job involving a color change from the original red and has a full custom interior based loosely on a 1959 Chevy Impala. There's loads more to the story but we are now looking for a small Sprinter style RV van to explore the USA so may consider trade up or down.I can assist in shipping to UK, Europe, Australia and New Zealand and have a contact for enclosed trailer delivery within the USA. No, I'm not a dealer, just a car lover.
