Up for bid is a nice original Henry all steel 1929 Ford Model A Roadster. I am selling it on behalf of my father's estate. I will detail as much of the work as I have based on knowledge, receipts, and/or can visual confirm. It was built by my Father who wanted an authentic pre-war hot rod. This car was parked in a garage for 40 years before being purchased in 2010 with missing interior, worn-out engine, weathered paint, but otherwise solid body and frame.
The Model A was totally disassembled, The frame and body was blasted inside and out. A local body man who specializes in vintage vehicles replaced some of the sheet metal on the body (I have receipts for fender wells and lower quarters - but I do not remember what my father said was replaced and examining the car I cannot see any welds or signs of work to confirm exactly what was replaced). The frame, and the body inside and underneath were primed and painted (exterior body has only primer!). The door and trunk handles have been removed and holes filled. Windshield frame was sloped and cut down. The top irons and bows have been modified to fit windshield, but canvas top was never made. Headlights are vintage guidelights and the taillights are reproduction 1950 Pontiacs. Rear bumper is a sectioned Crosley Bumper that hugs the rear perfectly! And of course reproduction Ah-ooh-ga horn adds the classic nostalgic touch!
The steering box and all steering linkage were replaced/rebuilt and pitman arm shortened for easier steering. The suspension was all rebuilt at all for corners and new friction style shocks added to the front suspension. The original front axle was dropped 4 inches for a lower ride. Keeping with the nostalgic feel of the build the original linkage brakes were retained but rebuilt back to original condition for effective stopping.
The engine was purchased complete from Little Dearborn Antique Ford Parts in Minneapolis. The block was decked, line bored, cylinders bored and honed, hardened valve seats installed, crankshaft balanced and counterweights added, etc. (****contact me if you would like to see complete invoice for work done). The engine is mounted using a Float-A-Motor motor mount kit to reduce vibration and increase smoothness. A Thomas aluminum high-compression head, a Burns dual intake with rebuilt Stromberg 81 carburetors, Mallory distributor, and header exhaust were added as part of the performance package. A new water pump, aluminum radiator and hoses keeps everything running cool. Rebuilt starter motor, starter drive, and cables for reliability. A new 30 amp, 6-volt alternator keep up with electrical needs.
The driveline was updated and/or rebuilt. The flywheel was lightened and balanced, new clutch installed, and a rebuilt 1938 Ford 3-speed transmission was installed with a Clings transmission adapter kit. Front U-Joint was also replaced. The original closed driveshaft and differential were retained. A mock- aluminum quick-change differential cover keeps is interesting! Wheels are spoked 1935 Fords and tires are new B.F Goodrich Silvertown 6.00 x 16 tires.
The car has less than a few thousand miles logged since work has been completed. I have many of the receipts, and some notes of prices that my father kept from this project ... The cost of the car and receipts alone are well over $20,000. This is only a brief description of what I know has been done. Feel free to contact my if you would like further information or additional photos - please inquire before end of auction.
PLEASE NOTE: This car was an ongoing project that my father "Boomer" was unable to complete. Although he did drive it on a regular basis around the neighborhood as is - it still needs lights wired up (only the brake lights function)(I do have a new wiring harness and headlight switch). OTHERWISE all the hard work is completed, exceptionally solid and well fabricated by a man who had built hot rods since a teen in the fifties.
ALSO NOTE: This is a 90 year car, it does not handle or drive like a new model car ... This vehicle is for someone who loves, knows, and understands vintage Hot Rods!!!!!
