If you are a fan of 1930s styling, but not really of the highly modified street rods that they are frequently turned into, then take a good look at this nice 1935 Ford 3-Window Coupe. It keeps the charming character of the original car and adds an attention-grabbing, bright paint job, slick modern interior, and a couple updated options for your comfort and convenience. Check it out. The 1930s was a wonderful time for the automotive styling... departments. In the early years, Art Deco influences generated geometric and stylized designs. By 1935 streamlining had become the trend and this car is a wonderful example of that. The long piano hinged hood tapers toward the front leading to a tall, upright chrome grill that flares back from the center and is topped by a custom greyhound hood ornament. Sculpted steel fenders start low on the hood flowing up and over the wheels with teardrop headlights that really set-up the face of this dramatic Ford. Stylized chrome bumpers fore and aft beautifully underline everything and are a nice contrast to that bright yellow paint. The sides of the hood are removable, and keeping them off the off the car not only looks great on an old-school streetrod, but it goes a long way to keeping the motor nice and cool. A thin, double pinstripe runs front to rear along the top and running boards connect the fenders along the bottom. The back flows gently down over the rumble seat (which is where everyone wants to ride!) to the externally mounted spare which is inside a nice steel cover that's been painted to match. Perfect the paint is not, as this Ford has been enjoyed since it was restored, but it presents well and looks great bombing down the thoroughfare. Open the door and you will find a simple and clean red leather interior with a couple nice upgrades that provide way more comfort than you'd expect in a streetrod. The biggest change, and one that makes this car suitable for long distance cruising, is the comfortable and supportive leather bench seat dressed in red. Also, a modern Grant steering wheel is mounted on a tilt column and feels good in your hands, and adds a bit of sophistication to the cabin. The dash was painted to match the exterior and features a custom bezel full of Stewart Warner white face gauges ahead of the driver that provide the engine's vitals. Ivory control knobs flank a chrome waterfall accent with a gauge in the center and the Lokar shifter for the C4 transmission rises from the floor. Beautiful door panels match the seats, and the carpet is very plush and protected by matching floor mats. Roll the power windows up when it's too hot and let that R134a A/C unit do its job, as it is currently blowing very cold. Finishing the look is a highly-desirable rumble seat that's also been finished in matching red leather, and this one is power actuated! Open up that piano hinged hood and you will find a rebuilt Flathead V8 motor tucked down in a neat and clean engine bay. A tall air filter assembly sits on top of the duale Stromberg single barrel carburetors, and yes, they were using aluminum for intake manifolds even back then. This car has been updated with Offenhauser heads, a 12-volt electrical system running on an alternator for easier starting and reliability, and signs of maintenance and rebuilds include ignition components that are in good condition as well as fresh belts and hoses, all to the tune of $15k worth of receipts that detail work on the drivetrain. Power flows back through that C4 3-speed automatic transmission to the rear axle located by long trailing arms and a transverse leaf spring. A single leaf is also used up front along with a solid axle and newer shocks. All-in-all the undercarriage shows very well, with the frame and pans painted yellow to match the top of the car. Power front wheel disc brakes bring the whole show to an abrupt stop, and power steering allows for easy Sunday cruising. The rubber meets the road through staggered 5.60-15 front and 8.20-15 rear wide white wall tires mounted on wire wheels with chrome V8 caps and beauty rings. This is a charming and stylish Pre-War car that remains very true to the original, but with a couple updates that make it easier and more pleasurable to drive on a more regular basis.
