Rare factory air conditioning! This retractable has been ground up restored. It has a tub, not a folder, but a tub of documentation- restoration photos and receipts, literature, manuals and an original inspection report found under the carpet. EXTERIOR: The body was restored at a professional shop and they were lucky to start with a very clean body. It's really straight, all metal with no signs of rust or bubbling. The factory colors were reapplied. The paint laid out very... smooth and glossy. I just walked around the whole car inspecting the paint and aside from some minor nicks touched up it is show quality. The chrome and trim is all bright and straight, some new, some really nice original. Upfront the bumper, chrome trim, headlight bezels are redone. Grill is excellent shape. Moldings down the sides are polished and straight, door handles are new. Has optional stainless fender skirts polished like a mirror. It also has dual deluxe mirrors with Ford script, correct antenna and rocker moldings. In back the tail light bezels are new, chrome trim, bumper, reverse light bezels are rechromed. New optional exhaust deflectors. It even has 1959 license plate. The white walls are reproduction. The hubcaps are new reproduction with the optional red-white-blue centers. I saved the best part for last- the retractable hardtop. It was a mechanical marvel in it's day. Very much a people pleaser today. With the flip of 1 switch the trunk lid opens, secondary lid flips out. Then the top unscrews from the windshield and folds in two as it retracts into the trunk. The final phase is the trunk lid lowering back down and screwing itself tight to the body. Aside from being a really cool, unique feature it gives the benefits of a convertible and a hardtop all in one! INTERIOR: Inside the car has been completely restored. I have pictures of it totally gutted. The interior was completely out including the dash. In those pictures you can see how clean the floors are, they have no rust. The seats and door panels have been redone in the correct (expensive) materials. The seats are tri-color and have silver tinsel through the fabric and silver piping around the edges. The door panels are two tone and have the embossed chrome foil inserts. The carpet was replaced, seat belts were installed. The headliner and visors were replaced with the correct type. The dash was completely removed from the car. It was repainted, cleaned and all of its functions were gone through. Right below the dash is something you don't see too often, the big chrome factory air conditioning unit. ENGINE COMPARTMENT: We have pictures showing the entire front end of this car taken down to an empty shell. It was sandblasted to bare metal then painted. The original 332 motor was completely rebuilt. The original air cleaner and valve covers were repainted. The air conditioning system was restored. All the components were restored as needed. The wipers were upgraded to electric. Horns were replaced, overflow bottle was installed on radiator etc. TRUNK COMPARTMENT: The top/trunk compartment has been restored. All solid metal, it's been repainted including bottom of trunk lid. It has a complete replacement plaid liner kit. UNDERSIDE: The floors are rock solid, frame is smooth and clean. The entire front end steering and suspension was apart, sandblasted, painted and rebuilt. Transmission is clean looking. Fuel tank and dual exhaust were replaced. In 1959 most homes didn't have a/c, very few cars did and it was almost unheard of in a convertible. But if you think about it, this convertible is a hardtop too. It's the ideal combination. This is a great example of a fascinating car!
