Ford Motor Company introduced its De Luxe Ford line in 1938 as a more luxurious option to bridge the gap between its standard model and the luxury options offered through Lincoln. The "Deluxe" name was used occasionally before and after this to specify a higher level trim, but the De Luxe Ford line was differentiated as a separate model within a model with separate styling and pricing through 1940. The convertible models that were made were always graced with the... DeLuxe package and gave those who had the extra money for the enjoyment of a drop-top model the extra features standard. 1940 also marked the first time that Ford moved their 3-Speed manual shifter from the floor to the steering column as that became a more desirable feature to the market of this time. GR Auto Gallery is pleased to present this very well-kept example of the rare 1940 Ford DeLuxe Convertible for your consideration. Featuring what we are told is the original flathead V8 "24 stud" engine, three on the tree, classic design and overall excellent condition, this is a great find for those purists looking for a pre-war convertible! From the outside, all the chrome and stainless steel is standing tall as well as handles, trim and glass, the running boards are even believed to be original and in great condition, the paint was completed back to an original Washington Blue and with a new navy blue Hebaron-Bonney top installed, the doors, hood and trunk shut better than when first built, this is a good as it gets! Recent work and upgrades include a newer carburetor, a 3.54 rear end installed for better drivability, new electronic ignition for an easier start, new brakes including shoes, wheel cylinders and master cylinder installed, fully overhauled engine and transmission when first purchased by its current owner, new wiring completed to entire car and a fresh set of safe and reliable radial tires with white wall accents. The interior keeps pace with its exterior beauty with its saddle leather seating, the vinyl trim done on the side panels is in great condition, the flooring is solid with a rubberized mat fit to the front and the dash stands as original but with updated paint completed to it with classic styling intentions. Added turn signals, fully-functioning lights and gauges and new brakes makes this a real cruiser that is ready to be enjoyed by its next owners!
