1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Convertible Resto-Mod built by Gas Monkey Garage on the hit show Fast N’ Loud! Well, here it is! You saw its completion on last week’s 2 part episode of Fast N’ Loud. Big Chris from the UK had a potential buyer on the hook and well, stuff happens! Something about wanting the steering wheel moved to the wrong side and miles per gallon of gasoline VS kilometers per liter of petrol along with a big block Ford... FE V8 and well, the car is still for sale! Documented on the previous 2 episodes of Fast N’ Loud, Richard found this fairly complete and solid example of the iconic 1962 Ford Galaxie 500 Sunliner Convertible with power everything, power steering, brakes, windows and top stored in California at one of the shops that was renovated on the hit show Garage Rehab. Thinking it would be a quick and easy build for the Monkeys, we brought it back to the shop in Dallas where the process was begun. Of course, things rarely go as planned and when it was discovered that there were old body repairs lurking under the old paint the decision was made to take it all the way to bare metal to perform the repairs properly. And so it began! The transformation is nothing short of amazing, with the body separated from the frame for proper repair and prep the focus turned to the chassis and running gear. The original Ford FE big block motor was removed and rebuilt. Additional performance was desired and so a Holly EFI fuel injection system replaced the stock carb and a set of long tube headers were added. After the complete chassis was stripped and powder coated attention turned to the suspension and brakes with Ridetech supplied control arms up front and a multi-link setup out back with coil overs on all 4 corners handling the control duties and a massive set of Wilwood brakes to provide confident braking. A Currie 9” rear axle receives power from the Monster AOD overdrive transmission. A custom Magnaflow exhaust system was fabricated to complete the powertrain and it all rides on a set of custom Budnik rims with 245/45R18 & 275/40R18 Continental Extreme Contact tires. After the body was stripped to bare metal, previous repairs were corrected with extensive work on the sheet metal to minimize the use of fillers and the result is the awesome Magnetic Gray finish seen here. Set off with a new black convertible top installed over all new hydraulics to ensure trouble free operation of the power top whether going up or down! A complete custom interior by Sue at ASM complete with new carpet and door panels sets off the completely restored and updated dash that is truly a work of art. Don’t miss this rare opportunity to own this kick ass show car that couldn’t be duplicated for less than 6 figures.
