Ultra low original miles, iconic lines, a distinct color, plenty of recent servicing, and a original 351 V8 under the hood that's what makes this 1970 Ford Mustang Mach 1 a great total package.
It seems odd that Ford didn't offer Calypso Coral on the Mustang for more than a couple of years. After all, the aggressive orange seems like the perfect pairing every time this one would pull up next to a Hugger Orange Camaro at the stoplight. But regardless, the limited availability makes finding a Code 1 (Calypso paint) Mach 1 an interesting treasure. More than just the right color, you love this because 1970 was a single-year distinct design, and the sleek Mach 1 was the best looking of them all. After all, it mixed the slick sports back profile with beefy features, like the large air scoop, deep chin spoiler, hood twist locks, optional rear window slats, and large rear spoiler. Plus, the full hood stripe package and blacked out rear panel look great against the bold color.
We love it when the exterior accent color is a preview of the inside color. All the right stock pieces are still in place, from the comfort weave bucket seats, to the heat/defrost controls, to the wood trim on the doors and dash. But you can also tell there have been some nice upgrades along the way. For example, the center console now has a more conformable armrest and the space for cup holders. The AM radio has been replaced with a modern Kenwood AM/FM/CD stereo. The steering wheel now feels great with a smaller diameter and grippy Grant GT unit.
This is the original numbers-matching block, but from the moment you open the hood, you can tell there has been some nice investment in the engine bay. There are a ton of new components, including water pump, power steering unit, wires, and the fan blade. It all keeps cool with the large Champion aluminum radiator. The 351 cubic-inch V8 inhales deeply through a four-barrel carburetor, and it exhales with authority as long tube headers feed the growling dual exhaust. While we know you're going to enjoy the power and sound this Mach 1 makes, you'll also find it's quite an easy driver. Features like the power steering, front disc brakes, and three-speed automatic transmission are great for any time. There even has been a recent investment in new front bushings to keep this feeling tight on the road.
