1940 Ford Deluxe Convertible Additional Info:
For Sale 1940 Ford Deluxe Convertible
This car is a time capsule. The car has been sitting in a garage for over 35 years. The story I was told when I bought it a couple of years ago went like this... "The car was purchased from a person in New Jersey in or around 1982 and was driven to Illinois, placed in a garage not to move again until 2015." I purchased the car in 2015 and haven't touched it... other than to move it around in my shop. As you can see in some of the photos it's become a catch all... lol.
I believe the car was built sometime in the late 60's or early 70's. I was told the drive train is... 283 Chevy V8, 3 speed transmission, radiator, rear axle and pedal assemble is all out of a 1957 Chevy. (I never ran any numbers so I'm going on what I was told.) The front and rear seats are from a 64/65 Mustang, and the gauges are out of some type of 60's ford. I'm not for sure what the front bumper is from, but the rear bumper is a 46 Ford woody. The body is very solid with some rust in the normal places. The floor is decent with a couple of patches in the trunk and main floor nothing real big or serious. The top bows are complete and go up and down super easy by hand, the doors fit very nice, they open and close good with no sagging or dragging. All of the body chrome is there except for one small piece on the cowl between the drivers door and hood. Over all the car is pretty nice and complete. I think it's a very solid car for it's age. All of the wheels are original 40 Ford, It even has an original spare in trunk.
The car does not run or drive... I messed with it for about an hour after I got it home and didn't have any luck getting it started, the engine does spin over freely.
I also have a new Fatman Chassis for the car that I will let go with the car for an extra $3,500. (This chassis sells for around $8,000 without shipping)
I do have a current Illinois title for this car, that is in my name.
I'm selling the car because I need the space in my shop, I don't have any interest in trading for anything else... if I didn't need the space for a new piece of machinery I wouldn't be selling it.
Please ask any questions before bidding, I will try to answer them to the best of my knowledge. Talking to someone is much easier than typing so if you have questions 57three-four zero 6 - 75 seven three and I can answer any questions.
