1966 Ford Galaxie 500 two door hardtop.
Up for sale today is my old Ford Galaxie. I had many dreams about restoring this car and making into a great cruiser one day but reality has finally set in that I don’t have the time to do what I want to this car.
I purchased the car off the original owner’s family, owner passed and left the car to her son who I purchased it from. The car came out of Mississippi and as you can see is very clean. The underside of the car is absolutely perfect and the body is laser straight making it a very easy car to make how you want. The car is registered and insured at this current time but I have not driven the car in about a year (I also have a 66 500XL convertible).
This car is equipped with a 289 V8, Automatic transmission, Power Steering, Power Brakes and Factory Air Conditioning. I really hunted for some time to find a car with factory A/C in it because we all know that convertibles are nice but sometimes the nice cold air blowing at you is much better!
The body of the car, as mentioned, is laser straight, no signs of body work in the past and only one repaint that I can tell. All the moldings and emblems are on the car and nothing is missing from it. All the windows are is great shape with the exception of needing a windshield, I had a stone hit it and caused it to crack on the driver’s side.
The interior is in good shape with the exception of the front seat and the carpet. I removed the front carpet section due to it being totally deteriorated and I knew I was going to replace it. The driver seat needs to be recovered but the back seat is good along with the door panels, rear tray and the headliner is perfect.
The 289 runs well but due to the carb can be a bit of a pain to get started. The carb needs to be rebuilt on the car badly and I have to pour some gas down the carb to get it going. The starter is new as is the fuel pump, ignition coil, fuel tank and alternatoron the car. When I purchased the car it was sitting for some time so I had to replace the fuel tank and fuel pump due to the old bad gas that the car had in it. The transmission is an automatic and goes through the gears very well. Brakes on the car work but the right front is grabbing very bad right now so probably needs some attention from sitting. The battery is old and week so figure that you will have a purchase a new one for the car. The emergency brake works good on the car as do all the lights, car does have a slight exhaust leak coming from the leftmanifold doughnut gasket, can see the carbon around it.
This car is super solid and you can take it in any direction that you want. I was going to bring it back to original, put a carpet in it, paint it and then just go through the brakes along with a carb kit and tune up and drive the car. I did not intend on doing a frame off restoration because in my opinion the car does not need one. The photos were taken today, I fired it up and pulled it out without detailing it at all, it will clean up pretty good with some elbow grease if you want, still has all the factory stickers on it on the inner wheel wheels etc.
If you are looking for an unrestored all original and unmolested Galaxie then this is the car for you. Spend a couple of days going through the brakes and carb, give it a tune upand you can have this classic cruising down the highway again. Please look at all the photos of the car for its condition and I encourage anyone who wants to see the car to email me and we can set something up. Shipping is the responsibility of the high bidder and I will assist the transporter however I can for you.
