1977 Ford Pinto Additional Info:
FORD PINTO "Movie Car" from PING PONG SUMMER !!! 1977 FORD PINTO...Very Low Mileage from PING PONG SUMMER Movie. This is the same 1977 Ford Pinto that appears briefly in Director Michael Tully's "Coming of Age" film Ping Pong Summer starring Susan Sarandon. The film was shot entirely on location in Ocean City Maryland in 2012 and released in 2014. The scene in which the car appears is at approximately the 19:00-19:03 minute mark in the DVD release version in which Rad Miracle played by Marcello Conte crosses the street with a Boom Box Radio over his shoulder to meet his friend Teddy (Myles Massey) on the other side of the street. As he does so a White Ford Pinto zooms by in the background. The scene took approximately 4-5 takes to film over the course of about 30-45 minutes but due to editing lasts about 3 seconds. For "Movie Buffs" it's about the same length of time that Alfred Hitchcock has a cameo appearance at the bus stop in North by Northwest. That's Show Business! (See The Internet Movie Database IMDB.com or Wikipedia) The car was purchased by me in Phoenix, AZ about 15 years ago from a young couple who had inherited it from a grandparent. The grandfather had bought it new if I remember correctly. The Pinto since it is now 40 years old spent it's first 25 years in Arizona and these last 15 years in the North East. After I had purchased the car due to it's extremely low mileage (22,000 at the time) I was hesitant to increase the miles and contracted a Car Hauling company to bring the vehicle to Pennsylvania. The Pinto's present mileage is now only 23,400 as a result. (See Speedometer photo in the listing.) The interior is still like new with the exception of a crack in the dash pad. The exterior has the original paint. There is however some damage to the right door below the handle which can be difficult to see depending on the lighting. I had taken it to probably the best "Paint-less Dent" Repair specialist in Pennsylvania who said he was confident he could remove the dent but he would have to remove the door panel to do the repair since cars in the 1970's used much heavier gauge steel than today's cars. I was getting ready to proceed with this and then the "Movie Opportunity" came up and I delayed the procedure. Once the film was finished I was uncertain if I should tamper with the car at all now that it was somewhat immortalized on film. At any rate the estimate to have the repair done at the time was around $200. Also the drivers side door below the handle has some deep key scratches? which someone (previous owner) had attempted to cover up with touch-up paint. I have included in the listing a mixture of photo stills taken in 2012 on location in Ocean City where the movie Ping Pong Summer was filmed. If you've seen the film you'll have no trouble recognizing the "on the set" ones such as Rad Miracle's summer rental cottage, Randi Jammer's (Susan Sarandon) cottage and barn and of course Anthony's Beer and Wine. I've also included a group photo of the Pinto along with some of the other cars that appeared in the film such as the Maryland State Police vehicle, the Buick Riviera and of course the red Chevrolet Camaro IROC-Z. The other photos in the listing were taken recently but there's no appreciable difference in the cars appearance. So if you want to own a piece of movie memorabilia here's your chance! Happy Bidding!
