This 1959 Ford Galaxie Skyliner was acquired by the seller in September 2004 in California. The previous owner’s father reportedly purchased the vehicle new, and it remains largely unmodified apart from the addition of seatbelts and power front brakes. Approximately 6,200 miles were added during the seller’s eleven-year ownership, during which time the Cruise-o-Matic transmission was rebuilt, the retractable hardtop was repaired, and a cosmetic refresh was performed in 2010. Equipped with a 352ci V8 and power steering, this Galaxie Skyliner was recently serviced and is now being offered for sale with a car cover, fender skirts, and a clean Texas title in the seller’s name.
The Torch Red paint was added in 2010 during a refresh of the Raven Black finish by Hutchens Auto Restoration of Rolla, Missouri. Both colors were reportedly factory shades offered for 1959 models. No evidence of prior bodywork is reported, and some chips in the finish and flaking of the rear bumper chrome is noted by the seller. Rust is said to be present under the rear seat, rear wheel wells, and undercarriage.
The Skyliner retractable hardtop utilized six reversible electric motors, four lift jacks, ten solenoids, and over 600 feet of wiring in its convertible design. The top was recently repaired and a new driver-side window and antenna were installed. Polished stainless steel fender skirts have been removed and are included in the sale. Steel wheels wear deluxe tri-colored hubcaps and are wrapped in whitewall tires.
New tri-tone upholstery, black carpeting, and a headliner were installed during the exterior refresh. The interior features the Lifeguard Safety Package, which included a padded dash and sun visors, a Town and Country radio, and a 120 mph horizontal speedometer. Some minor cracks are noted on the three-spoke steering wheel, and the odometer shows 95,657 miles.
The 352ci V8 engine is fitted with a 4bbl carburetor and was rated at 300 hp and 395 lb-ft of torque when new. A rebuild of the 3-speed Cruise-o-Matic transmission was performed under the seller, and a fluid leak is said to remain. The last servicing occurred about 500 miles ago and included a replacement of the radiator, hoses, belts, power front brakes, and power steering fluid.
I get more high high 5”s when I drive the car than does a new retractable Mercedes. It runs great and it has never “not" won trophies in every car show I have taken it to, from best-in-show to peoples favorite and sometimes both.
Thanksfor taking a look.
