1964 Ford Falcon Futura Additional Info:
This car was found by my brother at a father and son mechanic's shop that was closing it's doors in Pasadena, California 20 years ago. The car was garaged in the shop. My brother drove it around LA for a few weeks before shipping by truck east to NY. I have had the car, in a garage for twenty years.
I drove and maintained the car on the road, driving on weekends as my second vehicle for about ten years. I have used the same mechanic for maintenance and repairs since I have had the car and have the record copies of the work done.
Eventually my mechanic had to swap out the engine that came with the car, which was not original, with a Long Island rebuilt 170 cu. in. engine. I retained the two speed automatic that came with the car.
I considered changing the rims, but 4-lug options are limited so the original rims are on the car.
The Futura model came with 4-lug spindles. The Sprint has 5-lug spindles, I am told. I bought the 'Tiger Paws' rubber as it was a fave of my youth.
I bartered for a really solid paint job from a neighbor auto-body vendor. The exterior paint is top notch with a few minor nicks. The top has one tear, which has been patched. The weather-stripping at the doors needs replacement.
Once the car was painted and fully operational, I transferred to historic insurance for the past six years and only drive the car to car shows, recently at Kings Point and Fort Totten on Long Island, or to exercise monthly on good dry days.
The car drives great, it's a good looking ride. It loves to cruise the highway with the top down. You will just have be careful getting up to highway speed with that two speed automatic.
