1970 Ford Galaxie Additional Info:
Very rare 1970 Ford XL up for auction. I did a lot of work on this car. This was a special order Ford made at the Chicago plant with lots of options. Please see photo of build information that came direct from Ford. I'm Going to list the good things and the not so good things about this car. I think you will find that the good things far outweigh the rest. Prior owner was a pilot so he maintained the heck out of it. I'm going to be selling the car locally as well so the auction could end early just so you know.

THE GOOD: If you are into these cars, then you know this one is rare and it has some options that were special order. Came with the High compression 429 4bbl from the factory. Has Excellent oil pressure. I rebuilt the top end of the engine over the winter last year. Does not burn or leak oil. Has Console shifter, Edelbrock cam, Edelbrock intake, Edelbrock 1411 750 CFM carburetor with automatic choke, edelbrock timing chain, edelbrock springs, edelbrock lifters, adjustable valves, both of the heads were completely redone and by central cylinder in Portland Oregon and the car does not need lead additive for the gas. I always run premium in it. New alternator, starter solenoid. Cam was broken in properly. Aluminum radiator, new brakes all the way around, rear air shocks, factory bucket seats, factory AC car - but the pump, pulleys, and hoses along with AC radiator are not with the car and I don't have them. New power steering pump, water pump, oil pump, voltage regulator. Car came from the a Chicago factory with AC, power brakes, tilt wheel, rear window defogger, AM radio, C6 transmission, tinted glass, mag wheel style hubcaps, 3 point seat belts, locking rear axle (if you spin the tires, both spin at the same time.) 4 brand new BF Goodrich raised white letter radial T/A tires ($650.) remote mirror on drivers side. Excellent oil pressure, no leaks, no overheating issues. Oil pressure and temp gauges all set up but I didn't mount the gauges yet as I don't want to drill into any of the interior. The new owner can decide where they want the gauges. Factory AM radio works. New motor mounts and transmission mounts as well as universal joints and brake master cylinder. Classic plate for one time registration and set for life in Oregon. New fuel pump and electronic ignition, new exhaust manifold gaskets, new plugs, wires, rotor, distributor cap, less than 500 miles on the engine since rebuild.
THE NOT SO GOOD:Vinyl top was removed and the roof was primed with black primer and is ready for a new vinyl top. Carpet is worn out but I'm including a new carpet set with the car. Dash pad has a crack in it but I'm including a plastic molded cap that looks beautiful with the sale (purchased from Dearborn classics or Macs I can't remember.) Drivers door light switch is broken (I'll include the new switch if I can find it.) drivers side window regulator is off track but still functions (see video.) Paint looks like it was resprayed at some point and you can see where some of it has peeled. With that being said this car should look really nice if someone buffs it out and polishes it. I really did not spend much time trying to clean the exterior besides a quick car wash. There are random little bumps and bruises here and there on the car which you can see in the photos and video. There is a small dent in the roof which was covered up by the vinyl top and only revealed to me when I pulled the vinyl top off. There are a few spots about the size of a pencil racer of rust through on the roof which is really not bad considering that it was the original vinyl top. The shift linkage on the transmission is a little bit tricky but I just put it into first gear and then slide up into drive and it seems fine after that. It will go through all the gears on the shifter plate when driving but still needs to be adjusted to work properly. The plastic shift handle is cracked and I am in the process of repairing it and reinstalling it but you really should replace it to make it look perfect. The emergency brake is fully functional but does not ratchet into place. This is common with these cars. The lever just needs to be cleaned out and lubricated. Then it should function properly. As I mentioned above -- the air conditioning is not functional because the compressor, AC radiator, etc were removed. The domelight plastic cover is gone, The emergency flashers and cigarette lighter dont always work. Not sure why. Never looked into it. Trunk and battery area have some rust issues. I I am including and additional floorwell for the trunk which I already have placed in the trunk but have not installed it. To be clear the only trunk rust is in the actual trunk well- the molded part of the trunk. The one that I placed in there is doing more than the job but it will need to be properly installed in order to have it perfect. Rear defroster howls and the knob to control it is worn out. The cardboard for the back deck started to fall apart and one of the speaker holes (was never fitted with far speakers) is now exposed. The headliner has a few little holes but nothing too serious. XL emblem that covers key hole on the back slides down further than it should. Brake pedal has a return spring added. There is a plastic cover for the bottom of the AC box that is missing and I put some duct tape over it to allow the heater to not suck in air from the outside. There is a very slow vacuum leak which results in the vacuum operated headlights to go back to default position (open) after a few hours of sitting. Since a lot of the vacuum lines go into the actual headlight switch I have a strong feeling that the headlight switch itself should be replaced and it's like 30 or $40 from Napa.
I am trying to be as straightforward and honest as possible and expect whoever bids on this car to understand that once you decide to bid, I will spect that you will follow through with the transaction.
I drive this car daily but it's time for me to get something a little bit more economical. I did a lot of the hard work, now she just needs someone to really make her pop. The very first thing I would recommend would be to put headers on it and to put a dual exhaust on it. It came from the factory with a single exhaust which was odd to me The car is remarkably quiet on the inside when driving. Incredibly cool looking. Be prepared to have a lot of people looking at you and giving you thumbs up when you're driving this Chicago-made piece of American history.
