Among sports and race car enthusiasts of the post war and later period, the name Carlos Abarth is one of the most legendary. From his beginnings as a motorcycle and race car driver, he designed and built many of the most well-known cars of the era. His cars, like his logo the Scorpion, were small, agile, and powerful. He partnership with Carrozziere (coachbuilder) Zagato resulted in one of the most iconic designs ever. The Double Bubble. These hand crafted cars were built on the chassis of the Fiat 600. The engines were tuned by Abarth with a custom crankshaft, larger carb, header exhaust, and a host of other performance modifications. The Double Bubble was an immediate success and competed at Mille Miglia, Monza, and around the world. As racing evolved thru the sixties, many Abarth cars were modified to keep up with the ever changing technology and rules. Other Abarth enthusiasts were collectors who enjoyed the beauty and performance of these cars and kept them relatively stock for street driving. This particular car's history and ownership is known going back for over 50 years. A restoration was started back in the 1970s but never finished. It has been stored indoors and out of the elements. The body is in raw aluminum and is in excellent condition for an unrestored hand-built aluminum car of this era. Any defects can be seen. There is nothing hidden under shiny paint and body filler. The only corrosion on the body I found is a small amount on the closing hood lip. There is very little rust in the steel chassis itself. Just a few pinholes in the floor pan. The car is mostly complete although much of the interior and glass has been taken out of the car. It has the rear window, quarter, and door glass. It is missing the windshield. It has the stamped aluminum window and interior trim included. It has period seats although they are not Zagato seats. The engine block is the correct 600 block. The heart of any Abarth engine is the crankshaft and YES the correct Abarth Mille Miglia crankshaft is included. Pictures of the Abarth marking on the crankshaft are shown in the pictures. Other Abarth specific parts are included such the Weber 32 carb, tach drive distributor, Abarth head bolts, Abarth oil sump pan. The engine is loosely assembled and bolted in but it would need to be fully built. We have pistons, rods, camshaft and more although I do not know if they are correct for a 750 Abarth engine. We have a picture and video link at this link showing even more detailed photos and videos of the Abarth and parts.Abarth Zagato Double Bubble - beautifulsurfPlease message us for any questions that you may have about the car.
