The owner of this Fiat Spider feels it’s time for someone else to enjoy his terrific car. He’s tasked me with helping him find the car’s next owner. He’s owned it for 6 years and it’s been a weekend car for him at his Palm Springs home. He bought it from an Alfa Romeo-Fiat specialist shop in Burbank California. The story goes that it was the mechanic’s personal car. The history prior to that is unknown but one thing is certain, the car has been loved for many years. Check out the many detailed photos in the description!
The car starts up and runs great! It accelerates as these cars do, at a leisurely pace. This model was built for fun, not for break-neck speed. I can tell you there is nothing quite as fun as the feel of an open-air Italian sports car! The transmission shifts without issue and the brakes work as they should. A new muffler was justrecently installed.
The car’s exterior is in great shape. The paint shows very nicely and I can find none of the usual evidence that it has been repainted. The paint may be original or a high quality re-spray from the past but either way, it’s a head turner. There are a few paint chips on the edge of the driver’s door. I also can’t find any evidence of the car ever having been in an accident. Rust issues are common with these cars but this one seems to be the exception. Theglass in the car is factory except for the windshield, which has been replaced at some point. As you can see from the video below, there is a bit of pitting from use. Bright trim on the car is good but there is some aging on the headlight rings and some pitting on the driver’s door handle.
Inside is pretty sweet. The seats are in great shape with no rips or tears. The dash is also in great condition with no fading or cracking and the wood looks sharp. The carpeting looks terrific. All the accessories (signals, wipers, gauges, etc) in the car are working with the exception of the clock. Do they ever work in old cars?Tunes are supplied by a more modern Clarion stereo system and it sounds great! I have not tried the cassette player.
The convertible top is in good, aged condition. The canvas is presentable but has some fading and water stains. The rear plastic window is yellowed and a bit opaque and the stiching on the right side of the window is coming loose as shown in the photos below. The owner has never looked into replacing the top as it is rarely up where he lives. It is however, functional.
This is a great opportunity to own and enjoy an iconic Italian sports car designed by legendary Pininfarina. We want there to be no misunderstandings or disappointments. This is a 39 year old automobile. I have done my best to represent it accurately. The winner of the auction is purchasing it as-is - no warranty is offered. The buyer is responsible for local pick-up and/or transport of the vehicle. I reserve the right to end the auction early as the car is for sale locally. Payment should be a bank-issued cashier's check or wire transfer. A non-refundable $500 deposit is due within 24 hours after the auction. Balance must be settled within 7 days. Please ask all questions before the auction ends.
